Thanks so much for all your suggestions and advice for my holiday to Egypt. I'm back!

Had a really nice time - the weather was absolutely scorching, reaching an average of 37C in the day and very similar for the evening.

The hotel I stayed in was in the Shark's Bay area of Sharm el Sheikh and was called the Savita Resort. From the moment we arrived, we found the people to extra friendly and, to be honest, I was waiting for them to give the international symbol for "tip please" but it seemed they were just being friendly. Of course, there are the odd scallywags who would blatantly ask for a tip and they're the ones I tend NOT to tip. Is that nasty?

I won't bore you like your son/daughter in law would by giving you a day by day itinerary, so I'll just give you a brief of what I got up to...

Snorkelling (fishes were amazing - but my girlfriend Beccy is a wimp and gets scared of them!), Pool (obviously), Parasailing (which was good for about 4 minutes, then boring), Sunbathing (obviously).

That was the main gist of it, but there were two experiences that will stay with me...

We took an excursion to Cairo, which is either a seven hour coach trip from Sharm or a 35 minute flight. We opted for the flight! It was still an early start at 4am though. We saw the pyramids, which were just breathtaking, the Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum which houses Tutankhamun's mask, jewellery and caskets (yes, there was more than one). King Tut's actual mummy is based in Luxor, which is further away, but to see this stuff blew my mind. Beccy got bored. Shocking.

The other trip I enjoyed was called The Bedouin Experience. The Bedouins are kind of like new age travellers, they live in and off the desert. We rode a camel (scary creatures and uncomfortable), ate some food, smoked some shisha pipes (not drugs before you say), did some dancing and went star gazing. Beautiful - very spiritual.

So that was my week in Egypt. I was pre-warned that I may get a dodgy tummy at some point, and I surely did. The toilet became my closest friend for most days and I'm still not 100%, but it was worth it.

I promised I'd stick some pictures up, so keep watching out for them (as soon as I figure out how!)....

Tim x

IOW Festival - The Truth!

A 3 hour journey from Essex to Southampton on a Thursday afternoon to get to the Isle of Wight isn't really my ideal way to spend my time, but it was for the IOW Festival - so I'm cool with that!

My girlfriend, Beccy & I stayed in Shanklin, which is actually quite far from the festival site in Newport, but is a beautiful seaside town. The guest house we were staying in was just your general B&B and the staff were absolutely brilliant.

Right, you want to know about the actual festival? I was told by many people before hand, "It's the best festival" and "It's so good", etc etc. In one word, it was 'alright'.

I think there was a lot of bands just filling out the day to be honest. With the addition of another stage (apparantly the first time they've had more than one) it was meant to give other bands a try - but I seriously believe they could of all done it on one stage. I was surprised to see how many people went to see the Sugababes. If this was a few years back, I'd assume bottles of water or maybe even urine would be thrown from the crowd to the unsuspecting girls - this time though, they had respect as at least 10,000 all sang along to their poppy hits.

The only band I REALLY wanted to see were the Delays, who I think are brill. I overslept. Never mind. Iggy & The Stooges really impressed me with their "oh no, grandad's taken his shirt off and is dancing again" stage presence. The Sex Pistols' John Lydon just made me laugh with his anarchic rants about the other acts. Didn't see the Kaiser Chiefs. The Kooks were ok, but I wanted to hear more singles and sing-a-longs, rather than obscure album tracks.

Who else was there? Oh yeah, the Police. They were ok I suppose. The ones who stood out for me were the Zutons - I think they're a great band who know how to work the audience. Newton Faulkner was good, though when he did "Gone In The Morning" there wasn't as much energy there as there should've been.

Backstage gossip? I won't mention any names, but one DJ was rat-arsed and felt the effects the day after and one DJ was telling me how 'they could've got a helicopter across'! Brilliant. My favourite type of people in the hospitatlity areas are those who've been invited by a member of staff and strut around like they own the place. I'm not a fan of hospitality, so I went out as often as possible, only returning for a free drink, then heading back out. The food stands around the festival were brilliant, but pricey. They had everything from Caribbean to Mexican to good old burger & chips. The food in the hospitality was all organic rubbish with green bean salads and gluten-free cous cous all around... I opted for a £6 fish 'n' chip dinner from the stalls.

I think that's about all I can say. Generally, it was ok, but I say bring on the V-Fest! Now THAT'S a festival.

Hello VR VIP'ers,

How was your weekend? I decided to be a bit cultural on Saturday and took my girlfriend, Beccy, to Dickens World in Chatham, Kent.

It's quite a new attraction, but has already been used for a number of TV things, such as the title sequence to "I'd Do Anything" (The Oliver! talent search on the BBC) and The Hoosiers have used it for their next video.

Basically it's all designed to look like a Victorian town, with actors walking around as Dickens' characters. There's a haunted house, a boat ride, an old schoolroom, a 4D cinema, a theatre which has animatronics in and much more.

I really enjoyed it and thought the admission fee was fair. Beccy, however, wasn't that impressed. Not too sure if it was because I woke her up early, or maybe because it was educational :-)

I think her parents would've enjoyed it - so, next time, I'll take them!

"Please sir, can I have some more?"

Hey guys,

So, after a week in sunny Florida, I'm back in the UK - where it's wet and dull and apparantly it had been snowing?! Nice. But, I missed the music here I tell ya. It's good to be playing the music Virgin Radio plays.

Now, let me tell you about my holiday - generally, it was good. But, we had a couple of problems on the way. Firstly, our plane was a little delayed, which is fine, but because we had a connecting flight from Atlanta, we missed that one too. The airline told us it wasn't there fault and there was nothing they could do, but to fly us out the next day. Because we only had a week there, we didn't want to waste any time, so Beccy & I stood at the desk and protested until a supervisor came along, who was quite rude, and told us the same thing. We weren't taking 'no' for an answer, so after about 45 minutes, the supervisor pulled a few strings and found a couple of seats available... How convienient! Oh, plus they had lost my baggage - it was left in London!! I got that on the Wednesday.

Apart from the problems with the airline, it all went swimmingly. We did the Disney Parks, Seaworld and the new Aquatica waterpark. I'm not a big fan of waterparks and this wasn't anything special to be honest.

We also went to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. These are two of my favourite attractions in Orlando. Universal Studios are just finishing off a Simpsons ride, which looks awesome and should be finished by the summer. Islands of Adventure has the Spiderman 4D ride as well as Jurassic Park and the quality Hulk rollercoaster. I Highly recommend these parks.

My biggest highlight of the holiday was Discovery Cove. This is brilliant! You can either choose the swim with dolphins package or the non-swim package. It's worth the extra money for the swim package. Even if you can't book it in time, the non-swim is still cool. You get to swim with fish and go into a stingray pool (don't worry, the stings have been taken off). Plus there's an aviary.

Anyway, sorry to brag, just wanted to share with you my holiday experience... Now it's back to the grindstone and back to playing the awesome tracks on Virgin Radio!

Tim x

Very very happy.

Now, if you're thinking "hold on, don't you get them for free" - believe it or not, no - see, it's not all glamour and parties this radio lark :-)

Hello!

I've been pretty slack at this, but I will do better.

I'm now settles into my shows. If you still haven't heard them, it's Mon-Thurs 1-4am and Fri 10pm-2am. VIP'ers, you get special mentions!

So, last week was quite a busy one. Love was in the air for Valentines. I took my girlfriend to Folkestone for the night. Lovely hotel and nice meal - although EVERYONE in the restaurant were locals who seemed to go there a lot. We also had a DJ meeting on the Thursday. Imagine all the presenter's in one room and the boss standing at the front keeping us updated in what Virgin Radio's up to, etc. Witty comments from the left, right and centre... I just kept my head down.

Thanks to Marty from New York, I now have a Facebook Group! If you want to join, it's http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7887724405

Sunday the 17th Feb, me & the other half went to Southend-On-Sea as it was a nice day (it's a coastal town in Essex for those who aren't in the UK). We went on one of the coasters in Adventure Island - "Rage" it was called. The first climb was 90 degrees vertical. I love rollercoasters and have never been on one that does that. It was a little short, but a fun ride none the less. We then walked down the pier. Apparantly it's the longest pier in the world. That's all very well, but I've never had to pay to go on a pier before! I had ice-cream, a hot donut and some cockles... When I got home I was as sick as a dog! I blame the cockles.

So that was last week. I'll be on here most nights whilst doing the show, so let me know if you're listening.

Tim Lichfield x

Hey VIP-er's!

Quick introduction, I'm Tim Lichfield, the new boy at Virgin Radio. From January, I'll be doing the nightshift (1-4am) Mon-Thurs & Fri 10pm-2am - so if you're up late (or during the day depending where you are) have a listen... I've been told I'm a cure for insomniacs. Not too sure if that's a good thing or not?

I also have a quick favour to ask - when you have 2 minutes, could you go to www.myspace.com/timlichfield and check out my video entitled "MTV Random Report" (click 'videos' on my profile). REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks all!

Tim Lichfield
