COUGAR ATTACK!

SQUAMISH, B.C. - A young Squamish, B.C., girl is recovering from a cougar attack near her Howe Sound home and her mom is being hailed for saving the little girl.

A neighbour says three-year-old Maya was jumped by the adult, male cougar as she picked berries with her mother early Tuesday evening.

Wade Rowland drove Maya's mother to the hospital where the girl is expected to make a full recovery from several scratches and puncture wounds.

He says the mother reacted instinctively when she saw the cat pounce, pulling the cougar off her daughter and hurling it aside before grabbing the child and getting away.

Conservation officers tracked a male cougar and shot it late Tuesday night.

A necropsy is planned and DNA samples will be taken to confirm it was the cat involved and also to help determine why the attack occurred.

Amazing what a mommy can do to protect her babies.

MONTREAL - A French chef who serves seal meat at his Montreal restaurant says he's been bombarded by death threats ever since Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean made global headlines by sinking her teeth into the marine mammal.

Benoit Lenglet said animal-rights activists, mostly from France and Belgium, have inundated his inbox with emails saying he is "going to die" and "going to burn in hell. They don't understand what we're doing, they just see the hunt," Lenglet said inside his restaurant, Au 5ieme peche, in the city's trendy Plateau-Mont-Royal district. "They don't see the economy with that, they don't see the people who live from that.

"We make foie gras in France - force-feeding geese is much more cruel than the seal hunt." For two years, the cosy French restaurant, which seats 32, has been serving the rare dishes, including seal tartar, seal pepperoni and seal smoked meat.

He said sales of seal appetizers almost immediately doubled after Jean's famous tasting last month during an Inuit feast, where she was filmed eating a slice of raw heart taken from the blubbery creature. The Governor General's sampling also stirred massive debate around the world over seal hunting in Canada.

Lenglet, who was raised in northern France, said the first threats arrived a few weeks before Jean's snack, after a news item on his bistro's unusual fare was published in Europe. He said the hateful emails have continued to pour in since she created the international media frenzy. "We've put together a file with all of them," Lenglet said. "We have pages of threats."

Last month, the European Parliament voted to ban seal products, a move seen by aboriginals and East Coast sealers as an attack on their trade and way of life. The bill still needs the backing of EU governments, though they are expected to sign it into law June 25.

Back at Lenglet's bistro, the restaurateur sees opportunity for the delicate, juicy meat that tastes like duck. He plans to continue serving the dishes when it's available, usually between March and October, for about $12 to $15 each. "People want it by curiosity," he said of the dark, lean meat that is shipped to his bistro from a butcher in Iles-de-la-Madeleine.

"The threats come from Europe. Here in Quebec, I think there are more people for (the hunt) than against it."

A car traveling on a motorway in Switzerland lost all four wheels simultaneously, coming to an immediate halt in the middle of the highway, police said on Saturday.

The car had just stopped and the passengers had changed from winter to summer wheels themselves, a common task in Switzerland where there is plenty of snow in winter, but used the wrong nuts when mounting the new set.

"When they then drove back on to the motorway, all of the wheels disconnected," St Gallen cantonal police said in a statement. "Luckily, no one was injured and no other vehicle was damaged."

I imagine someone's 'pride' was damaged however! LOL!

Aaliyah, a respected 22 year old R & B singer and actress, died on August 25 2001 in a plane crash.

Her single “More Than a Woman” was knocked off the Number 1 spot in the UK singles charts by George Harrisons “My Sweet Lord” who died of cancer in 2001.

This is the only time in, UK chart history that, posthumously, one artist has taken over the number one spot from another.

I didn't know, and wanted to share it with all of you.

Love Triangle Ends....

One of the longest running love triangles may be about to come to an end.

Comicbook legend Archie Andrews is going to propose to Veronica later this year, according to Archie Comics' official website. It's promoting the release of Archie issue number 600, due to go on sale Sept. 8. The website tells fans to prepare themselves for the Archie story they thought they'd never see.

The competition between Veronica and Betty for Archie's attention has been the cornerstone of Archie Comics for 65 years.

The Archie website is calling it the "the Archie Story of the Century."

The website shows an image of the issue with a blue suited Archie on one knee in front of a beaming Veronica with a caption that reads "yes."

Betty is teary-eyed and pal Jughead looks stunned.

One comment posted on the website indicated that Archie is marrying the wrong girl.

"Personally I think he should marry Betty," a person named Kelly posted.

"She is cuter, more down to earth and not as flighty as Veronica."

Ah, but the fellas always propose to the wrong ones, don't they? lol

Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine.

The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per litre in the drink.

Five other states also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations.

Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment said Monday that the cocaine level was too low to pose a health risk. It planned to produce a more detailed report Wednesday.

Red Bull said its cola is "harmless and marketable in both the U.S. and Europe." It said similar coca leaf extracts are used worldwide as flavouring, and a test it commissioned itself found no cocaine traces.

A Michigan man's decision not to end his terminally ill bulldog's life has ended up saving his own.

Scott Seymour said his dog, Brittney, awakened him with her barking early Saturday in time for both of them to escape from his burning house in Grand Rapids.

The fire came two weeks after a veterinarian discovered the nine-year-old American bulldog had several cancerous tumours.
The vet said the dog might not survive surgery, and Seymour ruled out chemotherapy, believing it would be too hard on Brittney.

Seymour said he could have had Brittney put down, but instead decided to give her medication to blunt her pain until death comes naturally, probably within a few weeks.

Firefighters said the house may be a total loss.

It's a beautiful day and love is in the air, as Marie and Pierre sit on the riverbank, having a picnic.

Marie leans over to Pierre the fighter pilot and says, "Pierre, kiss me!" He grabs a bottle of merlot and splashes it on Marie's lips.

"What are you doing, Pierre?" asks the startled Marie.

"I am Pierre the fighter pilot! When I have red meat, I have red wine!" She smiles, and they start kissing.

Things began to heat up. Marie says, "Pierre, kiss me lower." He tears her blouse open, grabs a bottle of chardonnay and starts pouring it all over her breasts.

"Pierre, what are you doing?" asks the bewildered Marie.

"I am Pierre the fighter pilot! When I have white meat, I have white wine!" They resume their passionate interlude. Marie leans close to his ear and whispers, "Pierre, kiss me lower!"

Pierre rips off her underwear, grabs a bottle of cognac and pours it in her lap. He strikes a match and lights it on fire. Marie shrieks and dives into the river.

Standing waist deep, Marie throws her arms up and screams furiously, "Pierre, what in the hell do you think you're doing?"

Pierre stands up defiantly and says, "I am Pierre the fighter pilot! If I go down, I go down in flames!"

After conferring about this for a while, the two nuns decide to lock the door of the room, strip off their habits, and paint in the nude. In the middle of the project, there comes a knock at the door.

"Who is it?" calls one of the nuns.

"Blind man," replies a voice from the other side of the door.The two nuns look at each other and shrug, and, deciding that no harm can come from letting a blind man into the room, they open the door.

"Nice boobs," says the man, "where do you want these blinds?"

...meets a woman at a bar. After a number of drinks, they agree to go back to his place. As they are making out in the bedroom, he stands up and starts to undress.

After he takes his shirt off, he flexes his muscular arms and says, "See that, baby? That''s 1000 pounds of dynamite!" She begins to drool.

The man drops his pants, strikes a bodybuilder''s pose, and says, referring to his bulging thighs, "See those, baby? That''s 1000 pounds of dynamite!" She is aching for action at this point.

Finally, he drops his underpants, and after a quick glance, she grabs her purse and runs screaming to the front door.

He catches her before she is able to leave and asks, "Why are you in such a hurry to go?"
