Okay so I just moved and in the midst of unpacking multiple decades of collectibles (No it's not junk,I swear) I came across an old concert flyer for the Concert Factory. This place had gigs in Orange County California for punk and mod bands in the 80s. One of the few venues that did. Here are some of the bands from this show:

The Modbeats

The Targets

The Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Bangles

The Question

The Untouchables

I remember that show! Was so happy not to have to ride my scooter 60+ miles to LA again!

Hmmm this could turn into a long rant, so I'll try and keep it short.....Variety. Yep, variety, while with any radio you tend to hear the popular stuff more times than you may want, there is a difference between main market radio stations in the US and Britain.

I am from the Los Angeles area and we do have tons of cool music happenng here. But stations tend to get focused on a certain genre and stay focused in the present or specific time periods. Hey it makes em money and that's what their market research says folks want. I know the same occurs in the UK but there are some differeneces.

The variety I like from mainstream British stations like this is....getting to hear new music like Keane and the Fratellis, followed by Blondie, ELO, The Jam etc..

Not only is it great older stuff mixed with new, but a variety of styles gets mixed in as well. Alternative mixed with dance, mixed with bubble gum pop etc...

Of course some of it is total crap:) but hey can't hit 100%. At least music that was good decades ago is getting played next to the latest music so that another generation of folks can hear and become fans. Here we have to station hop to get that variety.

And damn it they would never play The Jam on the radio anyway.

Doh! Not short......sigh....
