ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA - Out Of The Blue; The Sun; London (UK)
February 23, 2007
by Derek Brown

2.5

Nostalgia is a funny old thing. So funny in fact
it has people running around the office saying
things like "ELO's Out Of The Blue is the best
album ever made".

That's just plain silly. What is regarded as Jeff
Lynne and Co's seminal album is being re-released
along with a load of other ELO albums in a bid to
rake in as much spondooliks from young fans of
The Feeling as possible. Shameless.

Out Of The Blue is an OK album with three or four
great tracks but 12 complete cheesy fillers.

If you're under 30 and never heard ELO's work
before, get a greatest hits compilation for under
a tenner and enjoy some brilliant pop songs like
Mr Blue Sky and a host of others.

If you're a veteran fan then the three bonus
tracks (including the quite good Latitude 88
North) may be worth stumping up for - but it's
unlikely.

- DB

Just a couple of weeks to go until this classic album is released in a remastered form with 3 unreleased tracks...well actually 2 as Latutide 88 North has recently been made available as a download.

Can't wait to get my mitts on this especially as I've ordered the 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition which comes as a 24 page hardback book...even comes with a smaller version of the push out ELO space station that came with my original LP!

The 1986 album Balance Of Power is also being released with 5 unreleased tracks too - nowhere near as good as OOTB though (have it on order too nonetheless)
