This is bad.

I'm at work, a little bit bored, I'm listening to 'The Eels With Strings' album, which is absolutely fantastic, I'm not even listening to Virgin Radio, yet I'm hanging about on the site, posting in my blog, and generally not doing very much, because I was in at half seven and did absolutely shedloads in that first two hours before other people arrive and stop me being productive.....

The list is really quite endless.

I've only ever made it to two, Bristol Essential Festival, and Glastonbury. Glastonbury was the best place on the planet, and I cant wait to go back. I saw Madness, Squarepusher, Dame Shirley Bassey, The Fratellis, Bjork, Chemical Brothers, the Specials (nice little impromptu performance on the Park Stage)...and loads of others, and Glastonbury is about a 5 hour drive, to go live in some mud, drink lots of cider, and make lifetime pledges to help the environment. Beautiful. Everyone knows its the be all and end all of all festivals. Madness were especially cool (Suggs - if you see this, that was pretty damn rockin!) with their secret gig in one corner of the site... It certainly says something if a band like Madness can be skipped from the lineup announcements, because the festival is going to have three times as many punters as tickets anyway. For other festivals, Madness might be a BIG drawing point, but not so with the daddy festival, Glastonbury.

On the other hand, V Festival is held not 5 miles from my house, and I've never been. Not even on a day pass. To get me to V, there would have to be several bands I really wanted to see in particular, (or I could fluke some tickets in a competition). There's just not that need with Glastonbury. I'd go to Glastonbury without them publishing a lineup. Michael Eavis could just say 'Oh, I've got some bands coming, it'll be fun' and I'd be sold. Is it the uniqueness of Glasto? Is it the sheer scale of the event compared to the other festivals? Are the others just less unique?

There's a really big hole in how festivals are marketed to the general public; I haven't a clue when the tickets went on sale for V, but I know I'm going to be pre-registering in January for the opportunity to buy a ticket to go to Glasto again next year. I dont really doubt that there's a similar atmosphere at V/Reading to the atmosphere at Glastonbury, but without a shift in the way the festivals market themselves, they're always going to be the poor cousin. Is that good? No.

I had a call from Virgin Radio a half an hour ago, and I was on a busy and important work call.... I asked Virgin to call me back in 5 minutes, and stupidly didnt ask what it was concerning.... Now I'm wondering if I've missed my chance at something incredible, as I spent a while this morning entering all the competitions, and also as you can see from my last post, I had a little whinge and it might have been about that..... I just dont know!

Half an hour later, and I'm thinking I've missed whatever it was; I was on tenterhooks five minutes after the original call, its crazy to get so excited just because a radio station is calling me, instead of the other way around!

DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!!!!!

I had to complain to Virgin radio today. They sent me an invite to enter a competition for V tickets... but when I clicked the link (ONE hour after recieving it) the competiton was closed and the winners list was there. Rubbish. I'm a bit broke at the mo, and I went to Glastonbury this year, so my festival budget is all spent up (and then some) so I'd have definitely put an entry in... if I'd had a chance. Surely the VIP newsletter should come in advance of competitons, not after they close? Sort it out Virgin, you're dropping from doing a fantastic job to only doing a mediocre one!!!

I emailed asking to be the drunk cause I couldn't be arsed to get my phone out of my pocket. I cant decide either way. Prize today isn't that great anyhow. I can do without drama in my life. Much prefereable would be some quality CD's... Hmmm I appear to be chatting sh#t... so i'm going to end this here. I'll be phoning you again soon Geoff and Annabel.....

Thanks to Ant for the first comment to my blog, and praise be that it wasnt abuse from someone who likes that awful awful song that I wont name again, as it doesn't deserve it.

Its not too surprising that I'll be posting often... I'm a sysadmin (thats computer administrator), and a registered geek..... plus the only way I can get VirginRadio is streamed through the net!

oooh ooh ooh, love this tune! Counting Crows - Mr Jones!... I think the only one of theirs I prefer is Angels of the Silences....
