Sorry I've been away so long- lots of unexpected company. This past Monday my brother had surgery to remove tumors from the prostate and partially remove the nerve next to it, which also had tumors. He came through ok, but is in severe pain cuz of the nerve. He's supposed to be home today, but his wife hasn't called yet, so don't know.

Anyhoo, that's what I've been doing of late, worrying and entertaining company! Well, and resetting the thermostat after Mom gets to it. She's been trying to slow-roast us alive, now that it's hot!

So, what's new in this neck of the woods???

Just got back from the movie 45 minutes ago, had to blog about it! For Trekkie fans, this is a drink of water in the hot, dry Saharan desert. The script remained true to Gene Roddenberry's creation; the casting director was superb in the choices of actors for the main characters; and it explains the gaps of info re: Capt. Pike, in the first series' TV episode.

Director J.J. Abrams did some fine work. He didn't copy the TV show. He relied on, and improved upon in some cases, the underlying story lines from all the shows in the original series, in a seamless body of work, which makes this movie the best one yet. I have a feeling there will be more in the making. If I had 10 thumbs, they'd all be up!

Live long and prosper. :)

I think this is the best one Paul McCartney wrote* oops, per nufc1892, it's John Lennon's song. Well~something kept niggling at me, and we're BOTH wrong and right! They collaborated and both got credited on the album and for the song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oZYqAeIdYk

Best advice anyone could give another. There's a bonus song after Let It Be~ Yesterday.

This happened to me while Ann & I were driving back home from the zoo last week-

We were close to where I needed to get on the main street, when I saw this hoity-toity stone sign out of the corner of my eye, announcing the entrance to an exclusive high rise condominium. The letters were the same color green as the azalea leaves that were brushing up against it. The name was "The Spires". But I thought it was an 'n', instead of an 'r',because a leaf got in the way!

I turned to Ann and said, "who the hell would name a high rise, "The Spines"!? I almost had a wreck we were laughing so hard!!! The whole way back, we were making up a commercial for "The Spines"!

"Are you spineless? Do you say yes to everything, even when you want to say no? Do people walk all over you? Are you afraid to speak your mind? Well, here at The Spines, we offer a 12 week course, at the end of which you'll have the backbone to tell people off! You'll learn to say "not only no, but HELL no!"; you'll learn to not let waiters suggest what you want to eat; you won't be intimidated out of a deserved pay raise and/or promotion; no more significant other directing your life!

At The Spines, you come through the back door and leave out the front!" *

*Individual results may vary; the director and counselors are not responsible for persons becoming assholes as the result of their participation in this program.

*not licensed anywhere

Here's some interesting trivia until I can get my daughter or nephew to help me with my administrator problem on MY computer. Next time they come over, I'm not letting them leave until it's fixed!!!!! :( My irritability level has reached the limit with them- next bar is head-hunter, and whoever I tap to fix it, has to watch Mom while I have fun.

On this date, April 26-

1607- English colonists went ashore at present day Cape Henry, Virginia, on an expedition to establish the first permanent English settlement in the western hemisphere.

1865- John Wilkes Booth, assassin of Pres. Lincoln, was surrounded by federal troops and killed.

1909- Abdul Hamid II was deposed as Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

1945- Marshal Henri Philippe Petain, head of France's Vichy government, was arrested.

1986- The world's worst nuclear accident occurred in Chernobyl, Soviet Union.

2000- Vermont Governor Howard Dean signed USA's first bill allowing same-sex couples to form civil unions.

You have just gotten these factoids in your head, and now they're stuck. :)

It started out good enough- My sister & I left early in the morning to pick up my aunt in a town north of San Antonio, with the expectation that the predicted rain would fall AFTER we got back to Houston. Remember that.

We stopped for breakfast 2 hours later, and as we left the restaurant, SOME angry god dumped buckets of rain on us and we got soaked just as we exited the door to get to our car, only 3 feet away.

Naturally we tried to dry off using the heater, but all that did was fog up the windows. We gGot chilled when I put on the defroster. We're still dripping wet, but we said, "it's only water" and listened to the radio the rest of the way. Remember that.

It rained harder and hailed pea-sized ice, but that lasted only a few minutes. It started to rain harder, but as we got closer to San Antonio, it was just regular rain. When we left the city, it slackened to a nasty drizzle. We were sniffling by then, from the chill.

We got to Kerrville ok, in a never ending cloud of drizzle. My aunt gave us directions which never fail to omit a key instruction. She's old, so she forgets sometimes that she only remembers them by rote and landmarks that are no longer there. We took a scenic drive by the Guadalupe River, until we found the street that was OPPOSITE the directions she gave me. But we found her, and we were impressed by the assisted living complex we got to see. Very clean, people scooting around in their automated wheelchairs, looking determined. My aunt's apartment was tidy, & I made a mental note to contact the staff when I take her back.

The trip back: the rain didn't fall later that evening. We had a good 45 minute drive from Kerrville to San Antonio- and then the rain came. It rained so hard, visibility was about 5 miles. And the temperature dropped, and I thought the windows fogged again, but no. It was the fog outside. It got very dark and the rain came down harder, and the visibility dropped to 1 mile and dropping more until it was just the hand in front of my face. I wasn't sure it was mine- Ann was scared stiff and Aunt Margie was in the back resting, but when we got home she said it was prayer!

Drove into more hail 45 miles out of San Antonio, and it got harder too! Pea-sized, then gradually bigger until we were getting hammered by ping-pong ball sized hail. Fortunately, it was mushy, and our windshield stayed intact.

It got VERY DARK. We couldn't see the freight truck in front of us, and traffic slowed to a bloody crawl. Flooding! Wind shoving the car around at 35 miles an hour! Lightning! all around the car, and one bolt turned into 3, right in front of us! The Trinity was mad! The radio was a major distraction and for the next 3 hours, this is what we drove through at a snail's pace. Aunt Margie, from the back seat gave me advice- "We(her friends) always take Boerne and come out at Seguin!" I told her, well we're on I10 and I'm in the wrong lane to get off.And I don't feel like going through turbulent water at the low water crossings! That's probably when she started praying.

We got home all in one piece including the car. No one was home, the house empty. There was no one to hear our tale of adventure! Damn it! So I made a White Russian for Aunt Margie and one for myself, and came up here to the computer to vent to MrMojo, who was already offline, so Rich thought I'd been on the computer ever since I got back! White Russians are good....

2 buddies were out for a stroll, walking their dogs. One had a Doberman & the other had a Chihuahua. As they walked, the man with the Doberman said," let's go to that bar over there for a drink." The other guy said, "we can't go in there! Our dogs are with us."

"Just follow my lead," said the owner of the Doberman. With that, he pulled out his sunglasses, put them on, and entered the bar with his dog.

The bartender said, "Hey! no dogs allowed, Mac."

The man with the Doberman said, "He's my seeing-eye dog." The bartender asked, "They're using Doberman Pinschers?"

"Yes; they're very good," the man said. "Ok, you can bring him in." And the man went to the bar and sat down.

The buddy with the Chihuahua saw his friend's success, so he put on his sunglasses and walked into the bar with his dog.

"Sorry, Mac, you'll have to leave your dog tied up outside," the bartender said.

The man with the Chihuahua said, "You don't understand. This is my seeing-eye dog." "A Chihuahua?" the bartender asked incredulously.

The man with the Chihuahua answered back, "A Chihuahua?! They GAVE me a DAMNED CHIHUAHUA!!???"

Being the sacrilegious person that I am, holidays are supposed to be fun without being hammered over the head with a BOOK and it's questionable stories. So how on EARTH is a RABBIT connected to EASTER???? Pagans WILL have their way, won't they.

First off, rabbits and eggs aren't mentioned in the Easter Story, which actually tells of PASSOVER, a HEBREW ritual, involving eating bitter greens, unleavened bread, & washing it down with wine.

Secondly, CHICKENS are the ones who lay the eggs. So where does all the candy and chocolates come in? Certainly these things aren't Passover fare.

My favorite comedian, Carlos Mencia, has his own take on the Easter ritual: "Easter is here!" "JESUS is coming!" Hide all the eggs!"

How does this celebrate a man's life?

My oldest sister Ann will be here visiting for 3 weeks, a welcome relief from the roller coaster ride we're on. Said roller coaster just went straight down; chemo isn't working for Ashley & she's now on the experimental trial study on a new drug.

HOPE SPRINGS IN TURTLES. :) I promise I'll be checking in periodically, but don't know how often. Thank yall for stickin' by me through all this. I still think I need that rubber room... :)

ARRRRRRGH! Now I can't access YouTube! I HATE ADOBE FLASH PLAYER! WHAT'S UP WITH THIS CRAP?! First Facebook, then MySpace, and NOW THIS!

It's all an evil plot.
