What do you think of the show so far? : A Blog What I Wrote

(Apologies to Eric & Ernie!)

OK, this blog's probably redundant, given the general buzz & mood I'm seeing on site... I suppose it's prompted by seeing 'Absolute' on the text display for the first time, a sign I'd been waiting for. It seems now that that was an error, but I've slapped down me tuppence now, and I'll have me say!

It's probably a stoning offence to say so (I see Llia's already purchased a beard...), but Virgin has been 'just another station' to me for some time.  With the arrival of DAB, and dozens of specialised stations, I'd taken to picking one that suited my mood at any given  time.  The Great DAB revolution! What you want, when you want it! Good times!!

*Sigh*...

It didn't quite work that way... in frustration, I took to talking to my radio: "Right, you know the score... if you play 'Freebird' again, I'm off!". In the end, I stopped going back... (and it'll be years before I can enjoy that song again)... the horrible, shocking truth was that every station claiming to play music 'you haven't heard for ages' made bloody sure you heard it every day!  The same is true of other specialised outlets...

Hearing of the changes, I revisited Virgin, although my expectations were low, to be honest.  Hype, after all, is a part of life nowadays...

Well, enough time has passed to get a sense of where things are going, and to look at the changes already made.  My impression is that they're really (no, really!) trying to get it right, and that great steps have been taken in the right direction.  I LOVE the expanded playlist (there's SO MUCH great music to draw upon!), and (a real deal-breaker, this!) am delighted that the constant repetition has tapered off... because I now realise that I don't WANT dozens of niche stations, I want one I can leave tuned in that consistently delivers.

I am, in a nutshell, impressed & pleased by the new 'Number 2'... (Sorry - geek reference!)

I should leave it there, but - in keeping with the blog title - I invite you to make your own comments... gently, please, hate mail brings me out in a rash!

AR! I have to agree Mark, but one thing, since we are all going to be saying AR instead of VR - should I get out that black eye patch and polly?? ;) xoxox
