Absolute Radio 60s Special: Berry Gordy's Motown organisation is responsible for many things. He brought African-American music to the masses and became the biggest exporter of soul music. One of the lesser-told Motown stories involves staff producer Norman Whitefield and the Temptations - and the invention of Psychedelic Soul. Combining electric guitar and effects with tight vocal harmonies, it resulted in producing the masterpiece Cloud Nine. The song went onto win Gordy his first Grammy Award.
