Widnes Central is NOT grade II listed - it was demolished many years ago and as the above comment says, lies underneath Ashley Way. It was closed in 1964 - but in its last years had only 4 trains each way per day at around 8am and 5 pm with none in between or later.

Widnes station (then Widnes North) is a possible candidate - but if Simon was heading for London then Ditton is more likely - this station closed in 1992 though you can see the old platforms from the train from Liverpool to Runcorn.
