The museum incorporates the upper floors of its neighbour, 23 Brook Street, which was the home of rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix in 1968-9. The house is only available for viewing twice a year. edit
Ok, so why should Handel's London home be important for a Rock Pilgrimage? Simply, because as well as belonging to an important classical composer, this house was occupied by the legendary Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix reported seeing Handel's ghost, and stories set in the house are the stuff of rock history. This was Hendrix's first london residence, which he got through Chas Chandler (half of his management team and ex Animals bassist) and the apartment originally belonged to Ringo Star of Beatles fame. Keith Richards notoriously fell down a flight of stairs here, and broke a leg. Hendrix spent most of his time with the curtains drawn, which accounted for his nickname The Bat. This is the flat where Hendrix first performed to a tiny but elite group of 1960's British Rock Royalty, and this is also where he penned many of his earliest hits from Are You Experienced.
