An early sign of things to come... Guitar legend, Jimi Hendrix performed here as a solo artist in February 1964 and won first prize in the Apollo Theatre amateur contest.

These were tough times for Jimi, who found breaking New York difficult. It was to be another three years before 'Are You Experienced' hit the shelves, bringing success on both sides of the Atlantic.
