Kings of Leon

Now of course we all have a favourite band. And of course we are all biased towards thinking that they are the greatest. Now anybody who has met me for more than ten minutes will know my love, my Achilles heel, my devotion to the four boys collectively known as Kings of Leon.
And my unbiased view is this: Best. Live. Act. Around. I first saw them in concert in early 2008, and I can honestly say it was one of the most amazing nights of my life. Battling terrible acoustics and a half empty pit, the noise that swept over me was indescribable.
And again, earlier this year, they came back. In itself, this is a remarkable feat – bands hardly ever come to my small city, let alone twice in as many years. Their utter dedication to the fans, the music and the way they keep on and on, should tell you something already. And boy did they perform. Of course this time around the pit was full, as every top 40 man and his proverbial dog packed in the (still acoustically terrible) arena. Front and centre, it was impossible to ignore the power, tone and complexity of the music. Caleb’s voice is out of this world, it never cracked or faltered. I screamed. I sung. I cried. I lost my shoe. At one point I even fainted. Yes, I “got lost in the night so high I don’t wanna come down”. And nobody had a bad word to say.
Long may they reign.
