The White Stripes Blogs
(229 views) After revising for two days straight and er only seeing the notes for the first time a grand total of two days ago (bad i know) i took the exam today and it was awesome!! There was one tiny question i didn’t
know and it was only worth about 8% so i am very happy indeed.
Ive celebrated by getting my guitar out plus all the trimmings. My housemates got to enjoy two hours of gay bar, seven nation army, suck my kiss, even flow, sweet child of mine and t.n.t lol. What an extravagant event!! Hows all my Vips this fine evening?? Plus any suggestions on what songs to learn on my guitar will be greatly appreciated!

(220 views)Making the effort to actually write my first blog despite being a VIP for nearly a year.. it could be more than that to be honest... yeah the shame...Anywho I'm in surprisingly sunny Manchester at the mo. I have an exam tomorrow but am finding it hard to revise because i love music and my guitars more than anything else
ever!! Is it just me or do other people find they cant concentrate when music is on because they go on an epic fantasy about them playing that song live or just trying to think about the chords/notes/picking technique needed to play that song??? I'm obsessing over White Stripes, AC/DC and Santana at the moment but im a bit worried that ive messed my fingers up for life. All that knuckle cracking has come back to haunt me.... Anyway thats my problem right now as well as not being able to see properly because my contacts are rubbish. Either way after next thursday all my exams will be over and i will be free to return to my lovely london life!!

(447 views)After a break of just over a month, last night I thought I'd come on and see what's happening in Virginland. Partly inspired by elleythemod's messages & one or two others, and also not able to resist having my say on The Jam forum after what I'd read there (kittykat, sorry but in my humble opinion you couldn't be more wrong!) I got really carried away and actually posted a coupla things! So here I am, back a day later to see if anyone's replied to 'em. No is the short answer. Not yet anyway. But never mind. I even tried to update my avatar by putting up a pic of me in my new whistle, but unfortunately it wouldn't work.
Not sure when I'll next be visiting this neck of the web so let me just say a quick hi to the following people:
elley of course!
AJ,
Bertiethemodboy,
britpopfan (thanks for the PM!),
Ohiogirl,
and humble appologies to any I've missed out who have kindly left me a message in my absence.
Some final points of view while I'm here...
1. 'FROM the jam' are NOT The Jam and could never be in a million years. Just as (as someone else on here pointed out) The Rolling Stones could not be so without Mick Jagger.
2. 'FROM the jam' are as far removed from what the SPIRIT of The Jam were about as it's possible to get. If you want to experience that youthful vitality go see the Arctic Monkeys or Kings of Leon or such like.
3. 'Modernism' for those who are interested, takes it's influence from the past but then moves FORWARD. Those that try to make it a revivalist movement are those who would kill it.
4. Russel Hastings can't sing. Period.
5. If Paul Weller ever went back on his word and reformed The Jam that would be the end of me being a fan. I would not be able to have any respect for him and you can't be a fan of someone for whom you have no respect. Not in my book anyway.
6. The best album I've heard this year is 'Icky Thump' by The White Stripes. Head & shoulders. That Jack White knows a thing or two about taking influence from the past and moving forward with it, believe me!
7. For those of you interested in all things Paul Weller, get hold of a copy of this months Uncut magazine.
8. The single by Paul Weller & Andy Lewis called 'Are You Trying To Be Lonely' comes out either next week or the week after. It's brilliant. You probably wont hear it on Virgin Radio but if you want to hear it (you should!) either check out their myspace or look for it on youtube.
9. You really have to question the soul of someone who describes Northern Soul as 'background music' and whatever other daft phrases people used to reply to berties blog.
10. It's good to broaden your horizons. There's so much good music out there that doesn't get a look in coz the radio playlists are controlled by a big business consortium of 4 major players who only want you to hear their nice safe inoffensive music that makes them lotsa money. Woe betide that anyone should want to listen to small independent record labels that they don't own! Check out artists on myspace & youtube etc and get out to gigs!

(533 views)An 'about me' post seemed an appropriate way to start my blogging life here on the Virgin Radio website - Which incidentally, I'm very impressed with. Used to use Myspace, but that gets very tiresome once you've left school.
Anyway, I'm 20 years old, and come from a small town near Leeds. I'm a die hard Leeds United fan (for my sins) and a season ticket holder. Leeds United would be the main love in my life, as I've followed them religously since childhood, travelling the UK and Europe to watch them play. I co-run a fansite called Leeds United World also (www.leedsunitedworld.co.uk)
Second love in life is definitely music. I know it's a dull and overly used thing to say, but I have no specific taste in terms of genre. I like anything from The Clash to Kanye West, but I would say my taste is predominantly Indie/Rock.
My favourite Indie/Rock bands of all time are mainly older ones, such as The Beatles, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Clash and Nirvana. I think this was essentially because most of the music around when I was growing up was utterly shocking. The Libertines are the only modern band that tops the afore mentioned, and easily my favourite. I do like some other modern bands too, such as DPT, Babyshambles, The Shins, The White Stripes, The Strokes and Radiohead (if you count them as modern)
I love my Country and am very patriotic! We have an amazing heritage, which we should all be proud of!
I also love Oscar Wilde - The man was a genius!
Other than that, there's not much else I can think to add at the moment...
"It is a very sad thing that nowadays there is so little useless information."

(1188 views)Chart Roundup and New Releases - 23 July 2007
The Enemy may be at #1 in the Virgin Radio Album Chart for a second week with 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' but the big news is in the Singles Chart where Rihanna is sitting very, very pretty at the top for an incredible 10th week with her 'Umbrella'.
She's only the seventh artist to have the accolade of 10 weeks at #1 and the first to do so in over a decade - it's the first song to do it since Wet Wet Wet's 'Love Is All Around' in 1994. People must like because of all the terrible weather!
Away from Rihanna's ode to rain canopies (her candy floss would get wet without them, after all), there are new entries from Amy MacDonald at #12 with 'Mr Rock & Roll' and Biffy Clyro at #18 with their beautiful new single 'Folding Stars'. Look out for a session from them very soon.
Back in the Album Chart, Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts takes his 'One Chance' album to #2. This might be his only chance but he's grabbing it with both hands. Just like the Cambodian prime minister did in his time.
Behind the unfortunately-named former mobile phone salesman are the classic rock supergroup Traveling Wilburys with their collection, and a re-entry from Kings Of Leon at #4 with 'Because Of The Times'.
There aren't any other new entries but there is another re-entry from White Stripes at #14 with 'Icky Thump' and a massive climb for Mark Ronson from #25 to #8 with 'Version', no doubt helped by Lily Allen's great take on Kaiser chiefs' 'Oh My God'.
