The problem with Nickelback

Hehe, I seem to only use this blog to moan about things, but I enjoy it so why not :)

I keep hearing the latest Nickelback song 'Gotta be somebody' and I don't like it. The problem is the singer - the band's songs are ok, but the singer is not good at all.
I don't mind singers with gravelly voices. Rod Stewart for example, had a great voice. But Rod had a lot of range and doesn't rely on being gravelly all the time. The singer in Nickelback - Chad whatshisface - can't sing in any other way, all he can do is that Chewbacca-like yell.
Which makes it even more bizarre that they decided to release their latest song. It's a soppy sentimental song about finding your soulmate and all Chad does is blurt out his usual stupid raspy vocals. There is no emotion or subtlety in his voice at all. When I hear him I imagine him as a big fat guy with a goatee who wears a baseball cap back to front because he thinks it's cool.
Seriously, Nickelback, either stick to songs that suit a loud shouty voice ('How You Remind Me' wasn't bad) or get a better singer.

Nickelback at NEC

it had been a while since I last saw a band at such a big venue and I wasn't disappointed!

the evening opened with Stained who were brilliant although not all the audience seemed to be fans!

Then Nickelback.....the pyrotechnics had you rocking in your seat and you could actually feel the heat!  The sound quality was excellent and the band had such humour and stage presence.....I would certainly go and see them again without a doubt - they were brilliant

What a week.

You'll have to excuse me if this isn't my usual upbeat manner, I'm absolutely knackered and full of cold. A few (well, lots) people are away this week and we've been very, very busy with the launch of Absolute Radio.

Still, there has been some light, we've been putting up loads of amazing content this week for you to enjoy.

Check out the music interviews page, we put up Kings of Leon, Travis, Nickelback and more! You'll also want to keep your eyes peeled on the sessions page too. And Ben's blog where he's got interviews with Simon Pegg and more.

Of course, you should also be checking out the whole Coldplay live set from Munich and go and cast your vote for your favourite Oasis tracks

I've added some more music videos from some hot artists like The Kooks, AC/DC and more.

Finally, we've also gone and revamped the playlist page. Have a look!

Now to crawl under my desk for a little sleep. (I WISH!)

Nickelback's Rockstar song covered by public school pupils on YouTube

Pupils at Benenden School, where Princess Anne studied, have become the latest sixth form students to post their own video rendition of a song by rock band Nickelback on YouTube.

The upper sixth form girls made their own recording of Rockstar in which they are shown miming along to the song.

The girls at the exclusive £26,000 a year school were filmed wearing furs and St Trinian's style school uniforms, washing cars in bikini tops, and crammed in a bubble bath.

One girl is even seen burning credit cards, as they sing along to the song by the Canadian band.

The song makes several references to American popular culture: MTV Cribs, the Playboy Mansion and Playmates, which are enthusiastically caricatured by the students.

One student, Tansy Aspinall, daughter of casino tycoon Damian Aspinall, can be seen in the video.

"It was so much fun" she said "It's the funniest thing to look back on and remember messing around with your friends. It's a nice memory to have."

Pupils at Benenden are not the only ones to make the video and YouTube has 2008 school leavers' videos from a whole variety of schools including Harrow, Epsom College and Downe House all making their own pop tributes.

The girls in Downe House, Berkshire, are seen singing with their science teachers and the boys from Epsom College are filmed in rugby kits and one is filmed sitting in a Ferrari.

Each school has their own take on the 2005 single which has been covered by musicians including N.E.R.D and Hannah Montana.
