My Chemical Romance
Review: Download Festival 2007
My Chemical Romance were not an obvious choice for headlining the Main Stage at the UK's premier rock and heavy metal festival but there they were on Friday evening, none the less.
With Korn headlining the Dimebag Darrell stage on the other side of the famous Donington Racetrack there was stiff competition for fans as the tent that holds the second stage was bursting at the seams.
Indeed, right from the start it seemed that there were more in attendance for Megadeth earlier in the day on the Main Stage than there were for My chemical Romance and the New Jersey quintet had bottles thrown at them for the first two songs of their set.
Thankfully, a lot of those detractors tottered off to see Korn, making the Californian nu-metallers' set one of the busiest and one of the hottest of the weekend.
It was also hot on the Main Stage as MCR headlined their first ever proper UK festival and played an awesome greatest hits set which included recent smash hit 'I Don't Love You' as well as classics such as 'I'm Not Okay, I Promise'.
Singer Gerard Way spoke about his engagement for the first time onstage but, tellingly, didn't talk about the absence of his brother Mikey, who has recently left the band indefinitely after getting married. Hopefully he'll be back.
