Like a lot of other Keane fans, i was a little anxious when they said they
had gone 'eighties' even though i was an eighties kid and loved the music.
When I heard 'Spiralling' for the first time, I thought 'Gosh' is this the
Keane I know and love? It took me a few plays. On buying the album, again
i wasn't sure about all the tracks as some of them were so different, but
I persevered and i'm so glad that i did, i'm now singing them all the time! I love this album. Yes, its not 'Hopes' or 'Iron Sea' but i think they have done absolutely the right thing in being more adventurous. If your're not sure, please stick with it, or go and see them live. I've seen many bands over the last 30 (yes) years, and i can honestly say they take some beating! Tom's voice is in a league of its own!

I Was a huge Keane fan, I've seen them in concert, but they've just lost a fan.
As soon as I listened to the album, I flicked through to find the next 'Bedshaped'. Nope, wasn't there. How about a new 'Hamburg Song'. Nope. Anything comparable to Something Only We Know, or This Is The Last Time? No.
To be honest the first two singles from Perfect Symmetry - Spiralling and The Lovers are Losing are decent songs and are very catchy but they just don't sound like Keane. If you heard The Lovers Are Losing on a Killers album you would probably not even notice the difference.
Ok so no beautiful, soaring piano ballads? What about the next Crystal Ball or Nothing In My Way? No.
The best track on the album, Perfect Symmetry still sounds like a different band, though it is great music, deftly put together with great vocals and lyrics that stay with you.
You Don't See Me is the nearest thing this album has to a piano ballad and while a pretty song in its own right, compared to Bedshaped it is a stinking turd.
And while I admire the fact they wanted to change their direction, personally it doesn't really work for me; Most of the other songs sound like 80's influenced pop or even some of their own weaker B-sides from the previous albums.
The production is pretty ok, but too loud at times and they all sound like they are musically in top form; Tom sounds fantastic, and the group has done a decent job of establishing a new path.
I was really looking forward to this CD, and I would have to say I am completely disappointed after waiting 2 years for something new.
It's not a bad CD by any means, and I'm sure some songs will grow on me given the chance; New fans might latch onto this right away, but much of the newer material is too much of a departure for me, it just doesn't sound like any of Keane's classics.

Personally, I couldnt care less if this album is an 80's homage. Isnt that likely to happen if you bring in synths?. Some reviewers have said it is Bowie-esque. I cant hear it myself but of course, these things are all in the perception. Simply, this is Keane. & that makes it great. Tom Chaplin's voice is, as always, superb. It is a different feel to their other albums, but still them. After UTIS I wondered what they would do with their next album & was worried they would turn out a 3rd album with more of the same & get stale. If they had, there would be plenty moaning why that hadnt done something new. I love the fact they have taken a different direction while still retaining their Keane-ness & I love the album. Stop worrying about: is it original? is it this? is it that?. Its Keane. If you like them, buy it & enjoy it.

This third offering from Keane, Perfect Symmetry, is a winner, and in my opinion far and away the best of the three. Much more lively and upbeat sounding than the first two. Infact I've never listened to the second more than a few times, so this is a very welcome addition to my CD collection and my IPOD. Excellent, recommended to all.
