Keane retaliate over "bland" tag

Keane lead singer Tom Chaplin has retaliated against critics who describe his group as "bland". The 29-year-old told the Daily Star that the group's recent single 'Spiralling' proved that they were willing to take risks. "I don’t like the tag of being seen as bland because you can't really listen to our music and think that, so it is frustrating," he said. "I love the fact that 'Spiralling' was the first track we had done that really divided opinion. It was such a bold thing musically that you couldn't sit on the fence." Chaplin added that inspiration from groups such as Radiohead and Goldfrapp prompted Keane to change their sound. "Freshness is great - too many bands sit around and stagnate and I don't think that could ever really satisfy us as we are always evolving," he commented. "Bands like Radiohead and Goldfrapp are constantly changing their sound and it's great to be in that select group of people."

Its a matter of personal taste , if we believed or took note of every review we read our choices would be very limited . I make up my own mind :-) I like'em .

I like Keane, they are talented, intelligent and inventive and are brave enough to bring all of that out in their music. I for one admire them for it. I have listened to all the hype about the new Oasis album, bought it listened a number of times and must admit I am a bit underwhelmed. As the informed Vikki says it is all about personal taste and opinion!! Nigel

Keane are a great band - & it's good to see them experimenting with different music styles. It's a shame they've been labelled "bland" by critics who probably couldn't sing a note themselves. If "Spiralling" isn't "fresh enough" for the critics, how much different do Keane have to sound to satisfy them?
