Fleet Foxes
Introducing...
Coming from the musical hotbed of Seattle, Fleet Foxes describe their music as ‘baroque harmonic pop jams.’ Brought to you by Sub Pop, the famous label which bought you Nirvana and Soundgarden, there’s a fine musical pedigree behind this quintet.
Often compared to such luminaries as the
Beach Boys and
Crosby, Stills & Nash, there have also been parallels drawn between the avant-garde group Animal Collective and the melodic
Band of Horses.
Their eponymous debut album has become one of the most highly acclaimed of 2008, with hugely positive reviews coming from all sides, including praise from Rolling Stone magazine, The Guardian and the hard-to-please internet publication Pitchfork.
Recent single ‘White Winter Hymnal’ is hypnotic, with swirling vocal melodies and genteel acoustic guitars and tambourines. Transfix yourself with their brilliant stop-motion animation video, below.
Their album,
Fleet Foxes, is one to pop on the stereo and allow it to completely engulf you with its warm, fuzzy and curiously familiar melodies. Light a candle, turn off the telly and get lost this carefully crafted musical wonderland.
