This is quite an interesting release. There are several rather different sounding takes and of course we get the dressing room rehearsal in full too. Generally though there isn't much difference between this and the previous '68 stuff previously released (ergo only 4 stars)

A remarkable release from the 'Follow That Dream' Team which is a very worthwhile companion to the other '68 Comeback-related material released on this collector's label, and the standard Sony/BMG label.
Here, we are treated to out-takes of Elvis at one of the most passionate times of his career, recording the soundtrack of the production numbers for his landmark Television Special. The different takes of these songs are a revelation and Elvis revels in all the glory of it, injecting so much raw passion into such numbers as 'Let Yourself Go', 'If I Can Dream', 'Saved' and the opening TV show medley of 'Trouble'/'Guitar Man'. The soundtrack of the production numbers were recorded specifically for Elvis' 'lip synching' during the taping of the production numbers on the show, but what is interesting to note is that the opening 'Trouble' and 'If I Can Dream' from the TV Special broadcast are both sung LIVE.
The other revelation on this CD is the June 24th, 1968 dressing-room rehearsal at NBC Studios in Burbank - a few days before Elvis & the guys perform in the round before a live audience and the NBC cameras. This rehearsal session was recorded on Elvis' tape machine and is not of the most perfect quality, but it is completely audible and a wonderful historical document of the time.
This is a highly recommended purchase and if you're a fan, especially of this period of THE KING'S culture-shaking career, then you're gonna love this!
