I've always loved Elkie's voice and know that with the right song she can always turn in a great performance. I also love traditional blues and jazz and have been a fan of this kind of music since I first came across Bessie Smith thirty years ago. However, I find these performances lack the kind of passion I would have expected Elkie to have for these particular songs. It isn't a bad album by any means but this vehicle steers too close to the middle of the road for my liking. Perhaps, it would have been better if it had been recorded Live in concert.

The sleeve to this CD talks about Elkie and Humph doing a forces tour in Germany in 1965. I saw that show - in Munster - Humph was Humph - as good then as he is today - Elkie was brand new to the business at 17. And 40 years on they record this simply brilliant album together; not before time. Lets hope its not another 40 before the next one. The arrangements, Elkies singing - the whole thing is very special - Buy and enjoy.

Only ELKIE BROOKS in the U.K. could record a C.D. like this and do it with great STYLE and great vocal ability!!!!

This jazz c.d. shows that ELKIE BROOKS. is a true professional. Her voice is as always suberb.

What can I say? Humph was a great performer, and will be missed (but hey - he made it to 80 plus and was going strong pretty much to the very last) and Elkie Brooks has a fine voice and track record. I didn't even know this album existed 'til I heard them bashing out Bad Penny Blues on Radio 2 at the back end of '08, and knowing my Ma (marginally younger than Humph hisself) is a big fan of his music, it was a no-brainer for a Christmas gift.
