Wendy James seeks publicity!

On Sunday night, July 22nd, at the Islington Carling Academy, Wendy James (ex-Transvision Vamp) headlines the gig.

Apparently, according to P.49 (bottom of 2nd column) of today's London Metro, she is the only performer ... but we know better!

This could work against the support acts, i.e. SUZERAIN, with people believing if she is the only act she won't be going on until later in the evening and therefore fans won't have to arrive too early.

Spread the word, repost this blog. Pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaseeee!!!

Giving It Large & Lording It!

This weeks featured artists who are criminally ignored by the mainstream are the one & only Lord Large. A fluid 10-piece soul/funk/60's beat line-up based around 2 permanent members, Stephen Large (formerly of Electric Soft Parade) & Andrew Jones and featuring various special guest vocalists including Northern Soul Legends Clem Curtis (of The Foundations) & Dean Parrish, plus Glen Tilbrook of Squeeze fame, Linda Lewis, and a guest appearence by Steve Cradock of Ocean Colour Scene.

At a time when this sort of retro soul/jazz is enjoying massive exposure courtesy of Ms Amy Winehouse it seems odd that Lord Large should be largely ignored (pardon the pun!)

Think Northern Soul, Hammond Organ, Jools Holland's RnB Orchestra, The Style Council, Jazz n Funk, classic 60's beat, and you have an idea of the musical melting pot that is Lord Large. This is one of my top 3 favourite albums of 2007 so far, along with The Bees and Little Man Tate. It's joyous, upbeat, feelgood fun played by people clearly enjoying themselves, and features a song penned by Paul Weller when he was only 15 yrs old, Left Right & Centre. If you find any of the above remotely interesting but haven't checked this album out yet then do yourself a favour and get into it!

Fans include Paul Weller, Rod Stewart, Graham Coxon, Mark Lamarr, Phil Jupitus, Janice Long & Gary Crowley. You might want to add yourselves to that list :-)
