Echo and The Bunnymen
Live at V Festival 2008
Echo and the Bunnymen played at the Virgin Mobile V Festival 2008 in the Virgin Mobile Arena.
2008 is the year Echo and The Bunnymen can look back at a career spanning thirty years and one thing is obvious, they are looking damn good for it (and we are not talking three decades of squeaky clean living here either).
So, what's a man to do without his cigarette? Singer and frontman extraordinaire Ian McCulloch is usually not seen without the trademark fag onstage and, health warnings aside here for a sec we're the first to admit it, it does look pretty damn cool.
But there's no need to worry as Liverpool's famous won't be stopped by a trivial thing like a smoking ban. Just a voice that sends a shiver down your spine, some shades and, erm, a full-lenghth black cloak like coat will do nicely, thank you.
It's nice to see that the crowd has a few youngsters mixed in who appreciate the proper music.
Thirty years of playing live and recording the good stuff culminate in a goosebump worthy performances of 'Killing Moon', 'Seven Seas' and a cover of The Doors 'People Are Strange' during which Mc Culloch lights up, just to have two drags and having to leave the stage to dicretly dispose of it. Ha, was he told off?
Dark and moody, that's how we like it and another worthy performance By McCulloch and his men. Here's to the next thirty years.
