Did Coldplay copy Joe Satriani?

Did Coldplay copy Joe Satriani? -> www.youtube.com --CHECKED OUT THE YOUTUBE ? -- Well there's plenty to listen to and think about there then ..... Is Coldplay`s `Viva La Vida` a rip-off of the 2004 Joe Satriani track `If I Could Fly`? Joe thinks so, and he is suing Coldplay. When you play the two pieces back to back, yeah there are similarities.Go 50 seconds in to the Satriani piece and the melody certainly has similarities to the Coldplay song....Is it a direct rip-off? Well, that will be up to the lawyers to work out. What is interesting is that this is Joe Satriani taking action, not some unknown who claims that Chris Martin once came to one of his gigs.Coldplay also came under fire from New York band Creaky Boards who claimed Martin ripped off one of their songs after coming to one of there gigs. Martin claimed he wasn’t even in the US at the time he was alleged to have been at the gig........www.music-news.com

It is similar. A high profile band like Coldplay is too aware of the implications of copying music. They know very well that they wouldn't get away with it. In my opinion - not copied!

similar but only on the repetetive 3 note pattern.after that satriani plays comepletely different. i think coldplay would come out better in court to be half honest

Joe's Song is of a suggestive nature, nothing less than brilliant. What was Coldplay thinking? Probably something they could not get out of their heads. Subconciously they maybe UNCO...In one Ear & out the Other!

Happens all the time. There are millions of songs out there, and only a handful of notes to play with.

You should listen to It's A Beautiful Day, Bombay Calling on their debut album in 1968 & Live in Carnegie Hall & compare with Child in Time dated 1970 by Deep Purple! Isn't it true The Rolling Stones get the rights for Bitter Sweet Symphony because The Verve used the same classical passage?
