Not sure how the previous user managed to give this cd 1 star without listening to it. Very odd.

I didn't go to the Hyde Park gig but as a Blur fan I was eager to snap us this CD and have a listen.

The Hyde Park gig came swiftly after Blur's storming performance at Glastonbury and I just can't help but think the band really used up much of its energy and drive in that gig. The vocals sound strained and tired, and the sound quality just doesn't sound as good as that I remember at Glastonbury. I should state that I don't go to Glastonbury as I'm one of those few music fans that would like to go to festivals for the music rather than the name, so my impressions of the two are based on what I saw on TV and the CD and have to admit the glastonbury one felt really quite emotional. I don't feel that with this Hyde Park recording. Maybe that'll change when I get the "No distance to Run" dvd that's out soon.

Anyway, it's still a good listen and probably sounds even better for those that went there.

Back when the Hyde Park gigs happened last summer, Live Here Now, offered pre-orders for CDs of both shows. I pre-ordered the CDs of both nights since I wasn't able to make the shows. Those who pre-ordered also received digital downloads of both shows. When the digital downloads were made available, I was shocked to find that the audio actually in in MONO instead of stereo. I decided to cancel my order with Live Here Now because I wasn't about pay £28 for audio in mono.

When I saw that the two shows were available on Amazon, I assumed that EMI properly mixed the shows and mass produced the CDs themselves. Much to my surprise and total disappointment, the CDs were the same exact audio quality as the Live Here Now version. Mono sound. Poor quality sound.

So my point of this review is BUYER BEWARE. Don't buy this expecting a great quality show because you will be disappointed. My advice would be to buy the No Distance Left to Run documentary DVD and rip the audio from the second disc which is video footage of the 2nd July show. The quality of that will at least be in STEREO.

The recording quality is avarage and undistinguishly engineered, the playing is uninspired, the singing is (more often than not) shabby and frequently staggering perilously out of tune.

If Blur wanted to make a point with these releases, they most certainly made a point that they are NOT a live band.
