...Before we miss it!Blind Melon are an incredibly talented band, and every song is constructed with the beautifully angelic vocals of Shannon Hoon, along with melodic and catchy guitar riffs. The sound of the two combined creates something unusual, original and utterly stunning. This CD has an effective selection of tracks from each album, however it only includes a live version of the incredible 'Deserted,' a song rightfully deserving of a place among the greatest hits, in its studio format, despite this, however, it does still sound fantastic. The album does contain Blind Melon's most classically mesmerizing songs like the brilliant, harmony laced 'Mouthful of Cavities,' the lyrically magnificent 'Change,' and the beautifully depressed 'Time.' There is also the inclusion of the unreleased 'Three Is The Magic Number,' however it would have been even more amazing if they had included the unreleased song 'Mother' which is an unbelievably beautiful piece of music. All of the tracks on the album are astounding, the music is serene but constantly exciting, the lyrics often genius and the vocals always spectacular.I would recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of music, if unfamiliar with Blind Melon this is probably a good place to start, as, even though to this day the tracks from the first album still largely remain the best collection of Blind Melon songs, this has the added bonus of the inclusion of the stand out tracks from 'Soup' and 'Nico' to boost the standard further. The thought that music from this talented group of musicians will never be created again, is saddening to say the least, and to listen to Shannon's captivating and enigmatic voice and know that he is tragically gone from this world, is heartbreaking. However, with this collection of eternally compelling songs, the legacy is able to continue.
