This album is an excellent way of completing your Big Country collection. It seems more coherant than other rarities compilations and stands out as a near complete work in it's own right. What you get on these two discs are stripped down demos and extra tracks recorded for Driving to Damascus and John Waynes Dream. As a result, The Damascus Sessions never really hits the dizzy heights of previous albums, but provide a more quietly introspective version of these songs. This is very much an exercise in extraordinary song writing and emotion, minus the big production values that were the bands signature. There are too many stand out tracks to namecheck her so I am not even going to try. I would recommend this to diehard fans as well as anyone who has just discoverd Big Country.
