Athlete follow their debut "Vehicles and Animals" with a more matured, heartfelt album. With the exception of "Modern Mafia", which was admittedly written as an on-tour singalong foot-stomper, each trach is performed with an air of sincerity, passion, reflection and grace. Most of this album was penned while the lads were on tour and clearly missing their loved ones. "Half Light" and "Tourist" capture the mood perfectly, whilst "24 hours", Street Map" and "Yesterday threw everything at me" pour out a melancholy reflection of mistakes, crossed words and those forks we all have in the paths of our lives. The DVD contains beautifully shot videos (including the emotionally charged "wires"), but its the live performances that show Athlete in their greatest glory. The guys have matured - that much is true, like a good wine they've improved with a little worldly wisdom. Don't miss out on the best brit album of 2005.

This album is good in everyway. One of my best albums of the moment. My favourites are Chances, Half Light, Tourist, Trading Air, Wires, If I found Out, Yesterday Threw Everything At Me, Street Map, Modern Mafia, Twenty Four Hours and I Love. You might realise that i have named every song but that is because every song is good and there isnt one bad track on the album. It is different from their debut album, vehicles and animals, but that shows the talent these londoners have.Buy It if you don't have it, You won't regret it!!!

pretty good album all round, but it doesn't match the skill of its predecesor, vehicles and animals. if you are an athlete fan do buy this, but don't expect it to be quite as good as athletes first album.

I had heard of Athlete and had heard the song 'Beautiful' from the first album, and liked it, but I suppose I never really bothered to find out more. I don't listen to alot of radio now as I don't get time, but I do listen to a little Virgin FM when I am drving. I kept hearing 'Half light' and the tune was going around and around in my head for days before I found out who sang it. I thought that I must find out more about Athlete. The next day I heard 'Wires' as I was driving on my own, and for some reason I listened to the lyrics, as much as the melody and by the time the song finished I was actually blubbing, big wet tears! It's ages since a song has moved me so much on one hearing. It was enough for me and I bought the album the very next day. I absolutely love it! Yes, it lacks a little variation but I can certainly listen to a whole album of ballads if I'm in that sort of mood. These are all top quality and I love Coldplay for the same reason. I don't want to compare them to Coldplay, though. It's not fair to pidgeon-hole bands. Modern Mafia breaks it up a bit without blasting your eardrums. A don't know about 'lifeless' as one reviewer called it, if a song can reduce you to tears with its sheer emotion, I don't think you can feel more alive than that. I recommend it anyway. If you don't buy it, at least listen to 'Wires'. I think it's essential.

I was introduced to Athlete by a friend who couldn't stop telling me how good they are, and boy was he right! "Tourist" is a great follow up to debut "Vehicles and Animals" and I would easily put them in the same league as Coldplay. A fantastic band I just can't stop listening to them.
