Absolute Radio: Discover real music

I listened to the song for the first time on Top of the Pops, and it never really affected me. I listened to it again a few weeks later, and this time it seemed to me to be a nice slow, catchy indie tune. I then read the lyrics and immediately the song just had so much more meaning and emotion. I've been through a similar thing with my baby sister being quite weak, and this song is just so perfect.

Wires is a fantastic song by any standards. However, on discovering the true meaning of the song's lyrics it gains extra poignance and I challenge anybody to remain unmoved upon hearing the track after finding out the story behind it.Wires is, in my opinion, easily the most powerful song about fatherhood ever written.

Wires is the first single from Athlete's new album, Tourist, the follow-up to the exceptional Vehicles and Animals. Drawing some obvious Coldplay comparisons, eventhough I feel that Athlete are one of the many bands who deserve to be respected as great bands in their own right. Wires has the classic Athlete stadium feel to it, and proves that the band haven't lost their golden touch for producing a good tune along with some emotional lyrics written about quite a serious subject. A more than well deserved Top 5 hit for the band in my opinion.

I'm a big fan of athlete...Been listening to the first album since it was first realeased and have never got bored....I was however slightly worried when i heard Wires for the first time. Although it has the bands slightly different sound its not as up-beat or different as the first album...This track reminded me of more serious bands like Coldplay and travis (Which is not a band thing) I was worried that the different sound that Athlete had come along with would be lost in favor of more serious music...But after buying the single and listening to it many times i truely believe that although the song is more serious it is still amazing...If you love athlete or bands like coldplay & travis then i believe that you will love this track!Can't wait intill the copy of the album arrives! :)
