The Courteeners in the Absolute Radio sessions
The sixth band in session in 2011 was The Courteeners. The exclusive gig took place in August at Hard Rock Edinburgh.
We gave one of our listeners the chance to be our Hard Rock VIP at the recent gig, and here’s the review of what Joan Pringle thought of the event:
The Courteeners put the rock back into The Hard Rock Cafe last Monday night with an absolutely fantastic set.
The gig took place in an intimate setting which was completely differerent from when we last saw them in March at the HMV Picture House and at T in the Park. We couldn't believe we were in touching distance of one of favourite acts of the last few years!
First on to warm up the crowd was Daniel Sloss, a young up and coming Scottish comedian who had the crowd in stitches with his near to the bone humour.
Then the main event... Liam Fray led the Courteeners onto the stage and launched into an electrifying performance of Cavorting.
A mixture of old and new hits followed from their original album St Jude and their second Album, Falcon. Playing plenty of crowd pleasers including my favourite Not Nineteen Forever which was the first song I heard by the band and had everyone on their feet dancing.
Liam had the crowd entranced with his witty banter especially when all the glass bottles were swapped for plastic drinks beakers!
His vocals are amazing, the band rocked through versions of You Overdid it Doll, The Opener and Scratch your name upon My Lips...
I've been a huge fan of the Courteeners for the last few years and I know after this performance they deserve and should be massive... just ask Morrissey.
Unfortunately we had to leave after the band left....work calling...booooo!
Thanks Absolute Radio for a fantastic night and opportunity to see one of my favourite bands in such a great venue.
