Switch article view:Match preview Wigan aim to add to Aston Villa fans' moaning
By Julian Shea.
Kick off Saturday 25 February 2012 at 15:00, The DW Stadium.
This year's Premier League relegation battle is one of the most fascinating in years because so many teams seem determined to be part of it - which is why, despite being bottom of the pile heading into the final third of the campaign, Wigan will feel they have every chance of survival.
A run of nine league games without a win was ended last time when Wigan won at fellow strugglers Bolton, so they will be desperate to build on that against an out-of-sorts Aston Villa side who have slumped to 15th place amid talk of player unhappiness.
Latics manager Roberto Martinez has a full squad to choose from after Callum McManaman recovered from a back injury and a virus affecting some squad members cleared up.
Midfielder Mohamed Diame, who was on the bench at Bolton, will hope for his first appearance since the African Cup of Nations, and Hugo Rodallega could be promoted to the starting line-up after coming on at the Reebok.
Villa fans were far from welcoming to manager Alex McLeish in the first place, considering his Birmingham past, so there will be a fair degree of I told you so-ing going on among the disgruntled masses about their current underwhelming midtable position.
Richard Dunne is one player who will not be able to do anything about improving that position, after he was ruled out for two months with a fractured collar bone, but that could open a way for Carlos Cuellar to become more of a regular.
Ciaran Clark's knee rules him out for a month, but Gabriel Agbonlahor returns after three games out with a back/hamstring problem, and Chris Herd is close to a first-team return after his ankle problem.
Striker Robbie Keane is available for the last time before his loan spell expires and he has to return to LA Galaxy.Listen to our football experts Russ Williams, Jim Proudfoot and Ian Wright for a look ahead to the weekend's games in Friday's edition of Ian Wright's podcast.
