Switch article view:Match preview Bolton face fellow strugglers Wigan in drop-zone derby
By Julian Shea.
Kick off Saturday 11 February 2012 at 15:00, Reebok Stadium.
Bolton fans may not have had much to smile about this season, but they can take heart from one thing - they are not Wigan.
Last weekend's 1-1 draw with Everton, courtesy of a bizarre Phil Neville own goal, saw the Latics claim their first point out of their last six games, and having briefly tasted life outside the bottom three before last week's 2-0 defeat at Norwich, Bolton will be desperate to ensure Wigan have to wait at least another week before picking up their next point.
Bolton manager Owen Coyle has no new injury problems, and can in fact enjoy the luxury of some selection options to choose from in defence.
USA international Tim Ream - a man who cancelled his honeymoon to join Bolton - is finally available after the paperwork of his £2.5m move from New York Red Bulls was completed, and right-backs Gretar Steinsson (hamstring) and Joe Riley (groin), who both missed the trip to Norwich because of injury, could be back.
Tyrone Mears is also challenging for his first Bolton start, having had a subsitute run-out last weekend in his first appearance since breaking his leg in training just after joining the club last summer.
And new striker Marvin Sordell could get his first start after recovering from an eye injury.
Roberto Martinez's Wigan side will be at full strength for the short trip to their neighbours and fellow strugglers.
Defender Antolin Alcaraz was only on the bench last week against Everton last week, but having recovered from a groin injury he is fit to start, and midfielder Mohamed Diame could be thrust straight back into the action following his return from the African Cup of Nations.Listen to our football experts Russ Williams, Jim Proudfoot and Ian Wright for a look ahead to the weekend's games in Friday's edition of Ian Wright's podcast.
