Geoff's Biography

Born in Manchester in April 1973, Geoff Lloyd was brought up in the silk town of Macclesfield.

His childhood can be summed up as crushingly embarrassing. Two examples are:
  1. When undressing in his bedroom he felt the need to cover up his poster of Transvision Vamp's Wendy James, so he could not feel her eyes upon him.

  2. On one occasion, when he couldn't find a red nose in time for Comic Relief, his father Geoff Snr fashioned one himself out of a foam tennis ball and a tin of red paint. The next day at school Geoff Jnr's shame was slightly masked by the mild intoxication caused by the solvents contained in the paint.

19 years after his birth, Geoff made it into the world of show business, with a job reading out South Manchester and North Cheshire's traffic news on the now defunct Signal Radio Cheshire. After losing this job, Geoff unsuccessfully applied to be a shopping trolly warden at Sainsbury's.

In 1996 Geoff joined forces with presenter Pete Mitchell on an afternoon radio show in Manchester. The partnership was to flourish and last for ten wonderful years, including seven here at One Golden Square.

While all of this has been going on he has still found time to work with Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash of The Royle Family, written for TFI Friday and Comic Relief and worked on a show at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Now, in 2009, Geoff is working on the sort of programme that first captured his interest in radio. But, it's not just his show, it's your show.
