Annabel's Biography:

Annabel was brought into this world in 1975 in the coastal town they forgot to close down, Southend-on-Sea.

In the intervening years since then she has led the most varied life of all the Symposium members. She taught English to Poles and Mexicans for three years, spent six months doing data-input, one week cleaning an old people's home and to our knowledge holds a national record for the 6 years she held a paper round (until the unusually mature age of 18).

In January 2001 she came to One Golden Square on a work experience placement and was spotted by the Svengali, Geoff Lloyd. Since then she has auditioned to be Michael Hutchence's replacement, been to circus school, and composed a song with Paul McCartney.

In the past couple of years she has developed strong opinions on many subjects, as can be heard in Porting Controversy. Even more recently she has stepped up her effort to give a little back into society with her own 'help a fallen star' celebrity rehabilitation programme, Let Bygones Be Bygones.

Annabel facts:

  • She loves The Smiths, John Travolta, pigs, and above all else tomatoes - she never eats a meal without one.

  • Her boyfriend is the United Kingdom's most experienced male wing walker.

The Facebook Issue

After the Wikipedia affair (see below), Annabel is again at loggerheads with modern technology, this time Facebook.

Despite Geoff's constant protestations, Ms Port pointedly refuses to join the world's fastest growing social network. Is she right to ignore this fad, or is she being left behind in life's slow lane?

The debate has raged so hard that a Facebook group has been created in her honour, pleading for the 'yes' cause:
'Get Annabel Port On Facebook'

Wikipedia Controversy

In January 2007 Annabel's entry on the free online encyclopedia was threatened with deletion after a Wikipedia editor challanged that she was not a notable person.

A fierce debate ensued, but happily on 1 February it was decided that she was significant enough to remain on their servers. The announcement was made by a Wikipedia user based on Salt Lake City, who contributes articles on an indie band from Malta called the
Beangrowers and Mormonism.

You may wish to visit the article, it contains some interesting additions to this biography, including the fact that she was educated "at Oxford...Polytechnic".
