David Cameron on Absolute Radio

Christian O'Connell with David Cameron

So, a quiet show then. David Cameron came on for the second time this year. I have tried to get Gordon Brown on the show loads of times this year, but nothing. David's people said he had half hour free this morning and liked the chat we did earlier this year so I thought why not? Plus whatever you think of the party he will most probably be our next Prime Minister.

As soon as he came in this morning it was clear he was really relaxed and because of that the interview flew by. Everyone is talking about it and this is what I think about the whole thing. He spoke really well and I thought he answered all the questions really well. Now, onto the swear words. He said “pissed” in the context of the british public being fed up with MPs. We agree was the overwhelming reaction from the listeners this morning. The reaction was immediate. It was the sound of people leaping out of morning slumbers. If you were listening you will remember it for a long time!

Most importantly to me, it was someone trying to engage people about politics and the decisions we make in life.

As for his comments about Twitter. It’s a one liner Jimmy Carr would have been proud of and so far, I haven't had any complaints about his language other than from a gbrown1099@hotmail.com

Have a listen to the full unedited interview on today's podcast.

Update! Even the normally po-faced BBC have been commentating on the story..

I thought he said tw*t. But when no one apologised, I assumed I'd misheard. Maybe potential PM's can swear with impunity?

Absolute Radio is a down to earth station, look at the older days of 'Pete & Geoff', Maybe DC was targeting a potential group of voters, by appearing more of a normal person than normal! - and yes he is right, voters are *****'ed off, and too many twits probably does make a **** Yes he is potentially the leader of our country further down the line, but a MINOR indesgression now, does not prevent that. Superb interview (even without the 'additional' choice words!) Thanks Absolute

Good interview blown totally out of proportion by the media. It feels like a throw back to the70s when the Sex Pistols were `encouraged` to swear on live TV.

Backstage at breakfast...

Welcome to the Breakfast Show's backstage diary, or "blog" as it's called by some. Basically this is where you need to come to find out what's going on behind the scenes with Christian, Richie, Martyn and Maggie when the microphones are turned off. They take it in turns to update here, so keep checking back to read about their shenanigans.

You'll also find pictures here of some of the more memorable stuff that happens in the studio, and you can even leave comments if you'd like to ask the team a question or say something about the show. Yes, they do read them all.
