Geoff Lloyd

Geoff Lloyd

Hometime Show Presenter

Born in Manchester and brought up in Macclesfield, the world of radio beckoned for Geoff at the tender age of 19 when he found his first job in the industry reading out South Manchester and North Cheshire's traffic news on the now defunct Signal Radio.

He's come a long way since then though and now entertains members of his 'Hometime Club' on Absolute Radio from Monday to Friday. Geoff's loved by his listeners for his witty but often unusual outlook on life, he's not afraid to provoke a bit of controversy and is regarded as a bit of a warm-hearted radio maverick. He treats listeners like they're part of the family and his daily show invites them to not only be part of it but to make it what it is.

Geoff's joined by the lovely Annabel Port and they can often be found tackling features such as The Big I Am and Annabel's Celebrity Post Bag or filming live music sessions in our studios and nominating Geoff's record of the week, and it's all delivered on his feet because Geoff never sits down while broadcasting.

Annabel has her work cut out for her as Geoff sets her tasks which have, in the past, included Annabel getting past security for a snoop around the Google offices, trying to set up her own political party and stopping strangers to convince them to allow her to look through all the photos on their phone.

As for personal interest, there's not much Geoff doesn’'t know about The Beatles. One of his career highlights was singing a song the team had composed with Paul McCartney live in the studio. Geoff once played an entire Beatles album without interval on the radio and has appeared on various television shows to talk about the band, including Richard and Judy. Geoff has also been a commentator on Big Brother's Little Brother with Dermot O'Leary, and tested his knowledge as a celebrity contestant on the game show Eggheads. He's still getting over losing out to Daniel Craig after auditioning to play James Bond.

Geoff's career began alongside the creators of The Royle Family, Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash. Cash, then presenting a late evening show on Signal radio, was Geoff's mentor and inspiration. The friendship with Aherne led to Geoff "fetching Asti Spumante and Benson & Hedges" for her, whilst working on the Mrs Merton television show.

After failing to bag a position as a shopping trolley assistant, Geoff forged ahead in radio, teaming up with presenter Pete Mitchell in 1996, and the pair went on to broadcast together for a decade. They picked up several Sony Awards, interviewed Sir Paul McCartney five times and bagged George Michael's first live interview in fifteen years, before going their separate ways.

During this period, Geoff also found time to write - his credits include TFI Friday for Channel 4, Comic Relief for BBC One and the sell-out Cakes and Ale at the Edinburgh Festival.

Aside from The Fab Four, Geoff counts the following among the things he loves: The Simpsons, Art House films, London restaurants, even numbers, Vegetarian food and travelling, particularly in Sweden.

Geoff Lloyd is known for his recognisable voice with commercial voice over credits including The Post Office, a long running radio campaign for Loot and narratives for Knorr.
