Polly James

Weekdays from Midnight

Polly joined Absolute Radio in April 2009 and since then she's built up a loyal fan base during her overnight shift, which she describes as "a club for night workers, students, drunks, insomniacs, new parents and truck drivers."

She's also revealed that Hollywood actor and director Tim Roth, who starred in Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Planet of the Apes, often tweets her during her show and Polly admits she has a small crush on him!

Polly may keep the night owls entertained but also indulges in her love of 90s music by hosting a show on Sundays between 12 - 3pm on Absolute Radio 90s. Absolute Radio 90s is the UK's only 90s radio station and plays all the best music you remember from the decade and none of the duds, with core artists which include Oasis, Blur, Portishead, REM, U2, Primal Scream, Guns 'n' Roses, The Stone Roses, Pulp and The Chemical Brothers. It broadcasts nationwide on DAB Digital Radio and is also available via smart phones and online.

Polly claims the best thing about working for Absolute Radio is that she gets to interview some of her favourite bands, including Welsh wonders Manics, Stereophonics and Feeder, the latter of which she was thrilled to be able to introduce at one of Absolute Radio's many intimate sessions.

Polly also revels in going to the many festivals we cover, such as Isle of Wight and V Festival and recalls a time when she thought Kings of Leon had finished their set so she ran off to the toilet, only to discover while sitting on a portaloo that she was missing their encore! She also revealed she once left a Prodigy gig after fifteen minutes with a black eye, after ending up smack bang in the middle of the mosh pit with hardcore fans!

Polly lists Limp Bizkit's 'Rolling,' Crazytown's 'Butterfly' and Feeder's 'Buck Rogers' amongst her favourite songs and when she's not working she likes to go to the gym, watch trash TV and she cannot get enough of karaoke, admitting she's always on her SingStar when she gets the chance and that she would love to sing 'Run,' with Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol.

Polly was born and bred in Cardiff and before she got into presenting her passion was athletics, which was a big part of her life. After she left the track, she worked in promotions for her local radio station in Wales and soon discovered she'd rather be on the radio than telling everyone about it. So she started presenting on community station Afan FM in Port Talbot (rebranded as XS South Wales) and soon moved on to Nation Radio in South Wales, where she claims her best on-air moment was the time she gave away tickets to see Stereophonics live in Cardiff to some of their die-hard fans. Polly remembers "You could smell the excitement throughout South Wales and it was like we were giving away gold bars. The passion for these boys was incredible."

Polly later interviewed the band and recalls how, after finding her dream wedding dress an hour earlier, she was forced to chat to them holding it on her lap! She claims that's the most embarrassing thing to have ever happened to her!

Polly's an avid user of social media and uses Twitter and Facebook to engage with her growing number of listeners - she could even be described as a bit of an addict.

Catch Polly on Absolute Radio weekdays from Midnight – 6am and across Absolute Radio 90s and 00s.
