Sarah Champion

Absolute Radio Presenter

Sarah joined the team at One Golden Square in mid-2005 and can be heard right across the schedule on Absolute Radio's network of stations. She's a vital part of many of our listeners' weekends as she kickstarts it with her 80s Party Show every Friday night. Expect synth pop and new romantic classics of the decade and she's also always inundated with requests from her loyal fan base.

During her time here, she's hosted many shows for us at some of the UK's largest festivals, including Isle of Wight and V Festival, where she's grilled some of the world's biggest artists backstage including Sir Tom Jones and legendary John Lydon.

Sarah says it's a 'dream come true' to work at Absolute Radio...

I'd always said it was my dream station to work for because they play everything I'd ever owned on cassette tape and CD and more, so signing my contract was a really special moment. Six years on, I still feel so lucky to be here. I love hearing from our listeners via text and email, we all share that special connection with the music we all love. I still have to pinch myself that I'm here at all.

Before she embarked on her hugely successful radio career, Sarah Champion started out as a journalist having studied for a BA (Hons) at Goldsmiths College, University of London. From there, she went on to read the news for Fusion Radio in Oxford and Storm Radio, an internet radio station founded by broadcaster Bruno Brookes. Sarah has worked extensively in television, hosting The Official Album Chart Show, Planet Celebrity News and Radio Gaga for Vh1/MTV Networks.

Sarah's first break into TV began with her co-hosting the critically acclaimed Channel 5 entertainment show 'Pub Ammo,' working alongside Absolute Radio's Christian O'Connell. Since then, she's amassed a huge amount of live television presenting experience on daily magazine show Radio Gaga for VH1, with hundreds of hours under her belt. She’s also starred in the hit BBC1 show Jonathan Creek and the ITV2 sitcom 'FM.' In the Autumn of 2011, Sarah returned from LA where she was chosen as the host of a new dance show, alongside Michael Jackson's choreographer, Travis Payne, for The CW Network.

Sarah has also enjoyed success as a model and was voted one of the sexiest women in radio by FHM magazine. 'Hilarious!’ she recalls, 'they were running a feature on the fact that all female DJs look like hairy scary monsters so the idea was for people to send in pictures to prove them otherwise. A friend of mine had seen the article, so sent my photo in and the next thing I know I'm plucked from the comfort of my local radio station in Hertfordshire and whisked off to London for an FHM photo shoot.'

'It was all very tastefully done I have to say, I had the benchmark in my head of 'am I okay with my Dad seeing this?!' To cut a long story short the 'Delicious DJ' shoot was published and suddenly my phone was ringing with agents and TV producers. Lesson learned, working your bottom off for next to nothing for years in local radio gets you nowhere, working your bottom in a Moulin Rouge-style basque and next to nothing else, gets you everywhere!"
