Presenter across the Absolute Radio Network
Vicki Blight arrived at Absolute Radio in the spring of 2010 and since then has become a fixture across our network, presenting shows on Absolute Radio as well as on our digital decade stations Absolute Radio 90s and Absolute Radio 00s.
She's quick to get listeners involved with regular features including 'Sunday Boast' and loves indulging in her passion for music from a particular era...
If I was to go on Mastermind my specialist subject would be 90s Britpop - everything from Gene to Sleeper, Menswear to Elastica, The Charlatans to the age old Blur vs Oasis. That is why I'm thrilled to be part of Absolute Radio 90s! My favourite live performer right now is Biffy Clyro and the CD that is currently in my player is Ellie Goulding 'Lights'. On top of my DVD player is the Fringe box set – it's so weird but so good!
Since joining the team, Vicki has hosted exclusive live sessions and has had the pleasure of interviewing many of Absolute Radio's core artists, including Sheryl Crow and Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody.
One of her highlights includes an interview with Lenny Kravitz in his dressing room - although she had to wait for Gwyneth Paltrow to move out of the way before she could sit on his sofa for a chat! Lenny even gave Vicki a gift and invited her to 'film an expose' on his tour bus... she is still considering his offer!
In the summer of 2011, Vicki got her first real taste of interviewing bands backstage for Absolute Radio at Hard Rock Calling in London's Hyde Park. Spending the weekend camped out just by the main stage, Vicki grilled The Lighthouse Family, James Walsh, Mike and The Mechanics as well as the legendary Adam Ant. Watch the interviews here.
A long time lover of real music, Vicki's first ever gig was an Absolute Radio favourite - James with Stereophonics supporting, but she has always encouraged and championed new music and is currently part of an industry team that listen and guide new artists via the Unsigned Band Review website.
It's not quite the rock and roll start you’d expect from one of our presenters but Vicki first dipped her toe into the world of radio while studying Biochemistry and Medical Molecular Biology at Cardiff University! She found time between wearing goggles in the lab to win Best Female at the Radio 1 Student Radio Awards in 2002, and it wasn’t long before Vicki went on to present at her local station Red Dragon FM. Since then she has graced many radio stations up and down the country including BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, Heart and XFM.
Vicki is a keen skier, has a passion for cars and special whiskeys, and enjoys taekwondo! Aside from the radio shows, you'll hear her voice on the telly as she also does some work for FIVE, Virgin 1 and BBC Entertainment. Vicki also presents an in-flight show for Qatar Airways and voices TV adverts.
