Introducing...
Willy Mason's been touring with all the right people. After shows with Radiohead, KT Tunstall and Beth Orton and being tipped early in his career as the new Bob Dylan, he finds himself on the playlist with his latest track, 'We Can Be Strong'. Originally featuring the KT Tunstall on backing vocals, Willy re-recorded the song with American country artist Rosanne Cash taking the mighty Scot's place.
Willy hails from New York but moved to the wonderful island landscapes of Massachusetts when very young. His parents were folk singers themselves and have lent Willy a deep understanding of solid songwriting as well as as a voice which is gentle and strong in turns.
Upon discovery, he was originally signed to Bright Eyes singer Conor Oberst's own record label and eventually released
'Where The Humans Eat' on Virgin Records.
He went on to tour the USA and play such famous festivals as South by Southwest and Glastonbury but not all of them went very smoothly...
Along one tour when his old diesel camper van broke down in Death Valley, he paid a local mechanic £750 to repair the van. When he returned to the garage the mechanic was nowhere to be found and the van was stripped of parts. Ouch!
When Willy played a UK tour in 2005 he was only meant to play a brief handful of dates but was so successful that he just booked more and more shows until it was a full three-week tour. He hasn't looked back since.
He recently released his second album,
'When The Ocean Gets Rough' in March 2007.
