Stiff Little Fingers biography
Jake, Steve, Ian.
- On 23 January 2006, it was announced that original bass guitarist Ali McMordie was to rejoin the band for the duration of their upcoming March tour. The tour was a success, with many fans writing into SLF's message board saying how much they enjoyed it, and how fired up the band seemed to be. After much discussion regarding the status of McMordie within the band after the tour, on 21 April 2006, Burns posted the following on the message board.
"
For the time being Mr. McMordie is happy to continue as long as his busy schedule allows. It may be that occasionally we have to bring on a "substitute", if he is up to his eyes and we need to do something, but hopefully we can avoid that.
Cheers,
Jake."
- On May 25, SLF announced Mr. McMordie would not be able to join the band on its Spring US tour due to health reasons. John Haggerty of Pegboy and Naked Raygun fame would fill in on guitar.
New album
On 9 March 2007, Jake Burns announced that Stiff Little Fingers would be recording a new album which would hopefully be completed by the end of 2007. They have previewed a track from the new album, "Liars Club", at live concerts. The track is named after a bar Jake drove past on his way home whilst listening to a press report about Tony Blair, George W. Bush and the Iraq War. As of February 2011, the new album is still unreleased. This is mainly due to the fact that Burns had more or less completed writing, when he decided on a change of direction, and scrapped most of the songs.
At the Glasgow Barrowlands gig on Thursday 17 March 2011 Burns announced that a new album was being recorded - hopefully for a 2011 release - before launching into a new song, "Full Steam Backwards", about the recent banking crisis in the UK.
As of 2012 the album has still not been released, with many speculating the release of the album on their 35th year of being a band. But new reports suggest the album is due to be released in early 2013 and then toured across the UK and Europe.
The songs previewed at gigs so far are:
Liars Club, a song about politicians constant lies. Jake shared the story of how he thought of how the song took its title. he explains that as he was in his car listening to the news, which involved then leaders, George W Bush and Tony Blair, as he looked to his left he saw a bar and the bar was called "Liars Club"
One Man Island, a song about having your own opinion on things and not simply hating someone or something, just because a newspaper or anyone tells you that you can or should.
Full Steam Backwards, is a song about the banking crisis in the world and vents anger towards the greedy bankers. who get fat pay-offs for being terrible at their job and asks "where is the justice in all of that, when ordinary working folk can't afford their mortgage payments.
