Sandi brings Saturday to a close
After coming on stage a little cautiously, Sandi Thom begins with the first line of 'Punk Rocker' and moves right on into 'When Horsepower Meant What It Said'. Despite it being a little bit late and people being a little bit weary, they had plenty of energy and everyone started cheering.
Strumming her guitar, she got totally involved with the crowd, letting us know that this was her first UK gig after a stint in America. Then she holds up a pair of well-worn wellies - Sandi's definitely a girl who knows how to do the festival thing!
As the slower songs get underway the couples start moving, and there's constant massive applause from the crowd. Sandi's powerful vocals and friendly character are clearly a hit, plus it's dark and starting to get cold, but we're still all there - she's that good.
The harmonica comes out for 'What If I'm Right', and the backing harmonies are chirpy and upbeat. People are still waving their arms after a slight prompt from Sandi, and after she mentions lighters, suddenly everyone gets them out and there's little yellow lights all over the dark tent.
With a cover of Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' added to the set, there's a really good vibe and by the time she comes to a close with 'I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker', she's barely heard in the crowd, as everyone wants in on the chorus.
Yup, it's definitely a brilliant way to finish the first night of the V Festival.
