V Festival 2007
An unsurprisingly topless and increasingly manic Iggy Pop spat out his lyrics as he simulated sex with an amp in the opening track to his V Festival appearance, while the contents of beer cans poured down on to the spectators. A swarming mosh pit soon grew in which the participants seemed to receive some sort of sexual gratification themselves, whether it was due to the performance or the sensation of sweaty bodies rubbing rhythmically against each other, it was nevertheless clearly exhilarating.
At points the 60 year old Iggy literally spazzed out on stage as he screamed like an impatient child into the microphone. The Stooges, while sonically thrusting, in contrast kept themselves tethered to their own spots as the 'Godfather of Punk' did what he is perhaps best known for. He smashed his microphone stand to a backdrop of rumbling drums and saxophone, and though very little of his bodily fluid made an appearance on stage it was possibly one of the best performances this V Festival and he certainly didn't disappoint.
