Blur

Damon Albarn: In conversation

Damon Albarn in conversation with Dave Gorman by Dave Gorman on Mixcloud

Damon Albarn says it would be 'brilliant' to bring back Top of the Pops. Speaking to Dave Gorman, he said he still doesn’t know why the show was axed: "I never understood that decision, it never made any sense".

The Blur frontman was also mourning the loss of another British institution - the tea lady. Damon misses a regular cuppa brewed the old fashioned way to the point that he's considering having a tea lady make an appearance at Blur’s upcoming gig headlining BT London Live in Hyde Park. "What have we got to lose by bringing back tea ladies? Now that we’ve talked about it I do feel like maybe I should bring a tea lady on. Be nice to make everyone a cup of tea, but unfortunately Westminster Council would prohibit it".

Damon says he can’t wait for the gig in his hometown "Geographically it's home in that sense, it gives us a chance to play to a lot of people in London. In the sense of the Olympics it's nice to get involved and celebrate this amazing city, and generally I think that's what’s happening at the moment, you get a sense that everyone's feeling pretty good about London, and that I’m there with that, because I love this city."
