(703 views)Well, here we are...

We've had a few people leave us in the last year or so, and quite a few new faces appear, so it's time for you to see us all.
From top left with have Grant Ellis who works in the Operations team - he's our newest recruit and really quite a character. Definitely a hit with the ladies... Grant works on the Service Desk and helps out the rest of the staff with their IT and studio problems.
Next from the left is me. I'm Stuart 'Eddie' Edwards, and I manage the Operations team. That doesn't stop me getting my hands dirty though! I like beer and winding up Applications Ben...
On the left of the middle at the back is Dean Woodcock. Dean works on the Operations team and does lots of live audio sessions. The chances are that if you hear one of our awesome sessions on the air or on the web, he's engineered and mixed the music! Dean likes hair and tequila...
In front of Dean is Jonathan 'Jono' Dean. Jono manages the Business Systems side of the department, which looks after lots of the core business systems that we use here and all of our web streaming servers and infrastructure. Great guy, lots of enthusiasm, especially after a couple of shots of expresso...
Next on the right at the back is Adam Reed. He's works in the Operations team and is the proper 'old skool' engineer (knows his stuff through and through). He's responsible for all of our transmission cabling and also does the odd live session in The Zoo. He only comes out for beer on a Thursday though. Boo!
On the far right at the back is Ben 'Applications' Matthew. He works in the Business Systems team and writes lots of clever applications that we all use daily. He's also responsible for our funky new podcasting system and lots of hangovers in the department...
Finally, on the right at the front is Michael Clancy (known internally as Clancy). Clancy works in the Operations Team and resolves issues for our office and studio users. He is quite simply the best best person to make you laugh, especially after a few beers...
One last thing - we're in The Coffee House in Soho most nights, so feel free to come and buy us (yes, you guessed it) a beer!
(691 views)Well, we call them MFD's, you might know them as printer / scanner / fax and photocopier units, or by their full name 'Multi-Function Devices'.
We got a cracking deal from a fantastic company in Hertfordshire, called Falcon Copiers: -
Photocopiers

They look after a wealth of companies in London and the surrounding area, and have supplied us with thirteen devices - that's six Canon iRC3380 devices and seven Canon iR1022if devices.
The best bit of all, Rob (one of the founders) is a hoot! He'll take you out and make you drink until you both can't stand - trust me, I know!
So if you're finding that your current supplier isn't meeting your requirements for service and support - just give Falcon Copiers a call.
Ahem, I can't see a legal issue with saying all this, we're not the Beeb, after all...
(2452 views)Long time no see... so I thought I'd post a blog about one of the new icons on the site that I've done.
Specifically how rubbish the old one was (I've only got myself to blame), how I came to changing the icon to the swanky new one and the challenges of actually creating icons.
Old icon
My Main issue with the first ticket icon I created was that it was such a garish color. Plus the icon didn't fit into the new scheme of icons so it had to be destroyed.
New icon
As you can see the new icon sits much nicer within the icon set.

Progression of the old icon into the new icon
Have you got any thoughts on any of the icons we use? Are they rubs? Can you think of a better object that could fit in a 13 by 13 square to represent one of our icons already? If so, why not leave a comment...
(4560 views)Digital One have let us know their plans for building new transmitters in the next two years.
The transmitters are grouped to cover 5 areas: the Scottish Borders (Selkirk and Riddings Hill), the Cumbrian Coast (Whitehaven and Workington), Chesterfield in Derbyshire, the Yorkshire Coast (Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington) and the South Coast (Newhaven and Eastbourne).
Whitehaven is a test area for Digital Switchover (DSO) and analogue TV will be turned off there in October 07. So, considering that Whitehaven is about to become Britain's most digital community, Digital One thought it would be shame for them not to have DAB digital radio too.
