Absolute Radio

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED.

Question asked by Liz Wallace:

Why are you changing the name? Please don't!

The old one wasn't ours, it was lent to us. That means we could not do all the other things we wanted to do, in spinning off the radio station into other areas which we feel you wanted. Our new name, which we own, means we are freer to do what we want, and it also says that we're re-inventing ourselves.

Question asked by Martyn Freeman:

I can honestly say that Virgin Radio is the only station I can listen to. I like REAL music, real singers and real guitars, drums etc. The thought of listening to some over-produced, hyped bunch of fashion victims, turns my stomach!
How much are you going to change?

Well, lots of stuff we do is really popular - and we've taken your advice on what to keep. So, there's a lot that's not changing. The sort of music we play (real music, written and played by real musicians) - and the 80s music - and Rock and Roll Football - and the live Zoo sessions - all will stay. And the list goes on.

Question asked by Paul Chapman:

It sometimes feels like you've got a very small selection of tracks (I'm sure you haven't). Could you throw a few more tracks into the mix?

Yes. Listen out right now for the Absolute Classics to hear a hint of things to come. Yes, it will mean that - once Absolute Radio - you won’t hear the same old songs time and time again each day; and we've already started to change that.

Question asked by Karen Evans:

Just wanted to say, please keep the OC and Geoff when you change! Can't live without them!

Many of our DJs will be staying; including Christian, Geoff and Russ.

Will there be anyone new?

Yes, we will be bringing in a few new names: one of the first will be Jo Russell, who's been on-air in the East Midlands and won more awards than just about anyone. She is great news. Watch out too for Tim Shaw and Allan Lake. Interesting guys! More to come.

Will any leave?

Yes, a few people will be moving on, including JK and Joel (who've got more than enough telly to keep themselves busy) and Robin Burke. If you really want to know the latest on the comings and goings (mostly comings!), check out our staff blog if you like on onegoldensquare.com. We really want to keep you in touch as best we can. But - again - not huge changes.

Will the website address change?

Yes, you may even already be on our new one now, although both will work for a time. Just to be sure, though, bookmark absoluteradio.co.uk now.

Will I have to do anything?

Not really, just keep listening and enjoying what we do.

What about DAB?

Again, just keep listening. The best idea is put us on your pre-set, so you can find us whatever we are called. If you look for us again on the scrolling menus once we've changed our name later this year, obviously you'll just have to look for the new name ABSOLUTE RADIO. Shouldn't take long - it’s near the top.

What about your digital stations?

Virgin Radio Classic Rock and Virgin Radio Xtreme have changed. They have new website addresses and will be known as Absolute Classic Rock and Absolute Xtreme, so you'll need to update your bookmarks and add us to your pre-set on your digital radio.

Can I make suggestions?

Yes, we won't change radically from day one. We are always evolving. Do let us know what you think, or send a question you'd like us to answer - Get in touch

How can I find out more about what you're up to?

If you really want to, check out onegoldenquare.com. It’s our staff blog - so it's a little like peering under the bonnet - but, be our guest.
