Adding to a hugely successful 12 months, Mumford and Sons picked up Best British Album at the BRIT Awards 2011. They're going straight back into the studio though and reckon making a second album to match the first is going to be tough.

A few short years ago, who would have thought that the London folk scene would become one of the most popular around? Bringing bands like Noah and the Whale and Laura Marling to the fore, now Mumford & Sons are here for the ride.

With a fascinating line-up that regularly features a pianist, organs, banjos and mandolins, they could be twee, but instead their music is more reminiscent of that of recent runaway success story Fleet Foxes.

There’s a definite American feel to their music, a country and bluegrass theme presides over many of their tracks. Raw, emotive vocals are decorated with lush harmonies; there’s a lot to be said for the comparisons between Mumford & Sons with Fleet Foxes and other bands such as Arcade Fire. But in our book, that’s no bad thing.

This is real music; heartfelt, composed by talented artists and pushing the boundaries of popular music. Stuff your 3-chord pop punk and check out Mumford & Sons, you won’t be disappointed.

Currently, the band have released a few EPs, we’re hoping for a full album in 2009.
