Florence Welsh doesn’t actually have a machine – the ‘machine’ is a collaboration of other acts which serve as a backing for her vocals, previously including a member of Lightspeed Champion. Florence was one of the highlights of the festival circuit in 2008, clocking up performances at Glasto and Reading among others.

Florence and the Machine has already garnered critical acclaim, she’ll take the Critics Choice Brit award in February 2009. In 2008 this was won by Adele, whose rise in popularity in 2008 was nothing short of stratospheric; we reckon the critics will prove correct this year as well! With backing from the BBC and NME too, there will be no stopping the machine in 2009.

A debut album is on the cards for 2009, along with a tour early in the year, so keep an eye out for Florence and the Machine.
