He's had his songs featured in Back To The Future, Lethal Weapon 2, Goodfellas and True Lies to name a few. He's won Grammy Awards for some of them too. And not only did he come 4th in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of '100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time', but he was also known to be rivalled in the 60s as the best guitar player going only by Jimi Hendrix himself. Tonight however, Eric Clapton decided to take a break from winning awards and grace London's Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park with his truly legendary presence on stage.

The band support and complement perfectly, and Clapton works as well now with others as when he was in bands like Cream. However, nothing can draw attention from the man himself, whose croaky crooning still gets the crowd going. And yes, in particular this does occur with 'Wonderful Tonight.' The huge reaction to this, though, is nothing in comparison to the reaction for 'Layla'. Still a massive hit with both young and old, all those who were politely holding back to nod their heads and stay quiet out of respect for the music can finally let go and dance to what is still one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

The encore - of course there was going to be one - is made all the more of an impressive finale by the appearance of other star highlights from the afternoon, including Sheryl Crow and John Mayer. It is a fantastic way to spend a Saturday evening and given the noise and appreciative applause, everyone clearly feels like they have witnessed something great.

So it has to be said... Eric Clapton, you really were Wonderful Tonight.
